Our partnership with Project ECHO has grown and transformed our thinking on how to seed and support communities of practice. Now we are addressing a critical challenge in #water and #climate issues, which is of trust in information exchange. How can networks practice processes that bring in more trust, resulting into greater participation and problem solving Thanks to Societal Thinking , Project ECHO , Ashoka ASPIRe , Project Tech4Dev for guidance and systems that are helping scale participation with trust. #WaterSafeCommunities #JalXChange #WaterQualityChampions
What does 'thinking exponentially' mean to your organisation? For organisations like Project ECHO, thinking exponentially means designing models that can scale not just within their original field but across multiple domains, enabling others to adapt, innovate, and push the boundaries of what’s possible. By toppling the first domino in healthcare, Project Echo has created a positive ripple effect – demonstrating that scalable, real-time knowledge-sharing systems can drive exponential change not only in healthcare but across sectors like education, agriculture, and public safety. Organisations like INREM Foundation, Water For People, Foundation For Ecological Security (FES), Grameen Foundation, Aga Khan Foundation, Professional Assistance For Development Action (PRADAN), ShikshaLokam, M S Swaminathan Research Foundation and the police department in the United States have leveraged the ECHO model to build capacities and improve quality and productivity and more. In our recent blog, Societal Thinking's Varsha Verma dives into Project ECHO's journey, how the ECHO model transforms knowledge sharing across diverse sectors and empowers communities to tackle complex challenges effectively through the iECHO platform. Societal Thinking is grateful to have co-travelled with Project ECHO and witnessed exponential change, as part of our Societal Scalers program. #Swacchata translates into values that are important for every human and for nature. As we move around in villages today, the Rs 5 plastic packets are everywhere. Wastewater from homes empties itself into villages ponds. And, water bodies unfortunately become a waste dump. #WaterSafeCommunities are about Clean water in taps, farms and water bodies. We need a Clean #CircularEconomy around Water, that helps grow the local economy and keeps water bodies clean. At INREM, we are proud to see changemaker #WaterQualityChampions striving towards #SwacchTalav for #JalSurakshit Villages, protecting water bodies from waste and helping communities enjoy a clean and safe water space of their own. #Swacchata #October2 #CleanWater

Pravah is a great example of a collective that has survived and thrived from the 90s and is now attracting a newer generation. Started by people like Nafisa Barot , Apoorva Oza and others , it is now addressing water problems of today involving citizens, both rural and urban. Many of the well known community led water movements in India have been pioneered by Pravah member organizations in Gujarat such as water independance for coastal communities, rural lift irrigation cooperatives, ecologically safe water recharge and many others from organizations such as Utthan Gujarat, DSC, AKRSP(I), Sadguru Foundation and others. INREM is proud to be a member of Pravah and to contribute to an idea of a people's network. We need such open, transparent networks addressing problems of the Water and environment. Much to learn from how Pravah has transformed and reinvented itself over decades, keeping its principles of inclusion and participation alive. #Gujarat #Networks #Water

"Some are more equal than others" Orwellian world turned real when Liby Johnson shared about how clean water is diverted and used for more productive and economy driven livestock, at the cost of not just other animals, but also humans. In Anand, after many years, a gathering of 200 had collected to talk together about 'Water'. The session here was an exploration from INREM and IWMI-Tata programme - to broaden the conversation around Water contamination. Here we were trying to put rural livelihoods at the centre and seeing how Water contamination is possibly affecting rural livelihoods. Some large numbers were offered - 10 million hectares possibly irrigated with contaminants in India, and 9 Billion cubic metres of annual wastewater generation entering into villages freshwater ponds. All these raised more questions - what is the quality of our food. What happens to soil ? how do village fisheries sustain. Out came many different layers and versions of looking at this. One Health as a framework from Vishwanath S ; seeing local and acting local. Gender and its differing viewing galleries , from Nafisa Barot and Mansee Bal Bhargava; floods and what happens to people and animals with contaminanted water during floods from Eklavya Prasad. As the chair Anuj Sharma put it, this is a completely different lens. This is going to open up how we see things till now and in some sense, a reversal. Not looking at livelihoods only as a polluter, but also as a victim. Environment, climate and nature don't know any of the terms that we use. Our categories are for our own comfort and easier learning. It is all an interconnected cycle in which we all are pollutors, sufferers and co-travellers. How would Orwell look at all this ? How does a lens of equity fare in a conversation of trillion dollar economy and all new shiny things. Human enterprise also needs its own space. Bringing rural livelihoods at the heart of the conversation around Water Quality, was a way to balance out this conversation. Water-Safe Communities is a vision with many layers. Health, livelihoods, ecosystems are all equal concerns. #Water-SafeCommunity #Livelihoods #ClimateChange #WaterContamination

On Tuesday, we hosted a webinar titled "Empowering NGOs with AI-Enabled WhatsApp Chatbots on Glific," and it turned out to be a great session! We were excited to have 92 participants from various organizations come together, including both new and existing NGO partners. A special shoutout to our panelists—Atharva Joshi from Civis, Jacob Kohn from Bandhu Urban Tech, and Kiran Kumar Sen from INREM Foundation—who shared their use cases and gave us live demos of their AI-enabled WhatsApp chatbots. During the session: ▪ Atharva Joshi from Civis showcased how their LLM-enabled chatbot simplifies complex policy documents for public consultations, empowering citizens to ask questions and better understand the policies that impact them. ▪ Jacob Kohn from Bandhu Urban Tech demonstrated how their chatbot connects migrant workers with affordable housing options via WhatsApp, making a real difference in people's lives. ▪ Kiran Kumar Sen from INREM Foundation shared their unique approach of turning citizens into sensors for local water bodies, using chatbots to drive community action for improving water quality, safety, and security. A big thank you to everyone who joined and made this webinar a success! Mark your calendars for our next session on September 17th, where we'll dive into "How Education NGOs Can Benefit from Glific."
