Empowering 40,000 artisans, weaving love, and connecting rural India to the world, one exquisite handmade rug at a time.

About us

Jaipur Rugs is a family business built on the fundamental principal of conserving ancestral know-how and connecting rural craftsmanship with global consumers, in a manner that spreads kindness and benefits all our stakeholders. It uses the age-old art of handmade carpets as a tool to bring prosperity to 40,000 rural artisans of which 80% are women. Founded in 1978 by Nand Kishore Chaudhary with two looms, it now has over 7000 looms and sells in over 60 countries. Today the company creates contemporary works of art by collaborating with creative talents capable of showcasing this ancestral craft with a new vision. Our business combines the pursuit of profit with the spreading of kindness in a way that benefits all of our stakeholders: our consumers and their families, the artisans and their families, our employees, our suppliers, the buyers and channels we work with. Founder Nand Kishore Chaudhary inculcated in us a bedrock of values that combines kindness as our default demeanor, compassion for those around us, and the humility that everyone deserves dignity. This means that Jaipur Rugs will work with all those that stand for these values and it drives us as an organization to work with and tap into the creative capacity of those in society that are disadvantaged or rejected. With their help, we create the most distinct design of the highest quality, and are also able to capture the blessings of the disadvantaged such as the artisans and their families. This blessing derives from their passion and devoted labour as they receive the opportunity to grow their fortunes, self-worth and pride-and which then transform into our products. As a result, a Jaipur Rugs customer will receive the most beautiful, highest quality design together with the blessing of an artisan’s family. With this competitive advantage, we aspire to become the leader in our trade and serve as the catalyst for how our industry creates both economic and humanitarian benefit for all stakeholders.

Warp & Weft Chronicles Insights into Craftsmanship and Design. #Jaipurjargons Chapter 3 : Abrash Ever wondered why some carpets possess a subtle, almost magical play of color? That is the magic of Abrash. Not a Flaw, But a Whisper of Time, Abrash celebrates the inherent beauty of handwoven artistry. These color variations arise from the very soul of the rug – the natural fibers, the hand-dyed yarns, and the weaver's touch. It evokes a similar effect, with lighter and darker tones weaving a story within the rug's design. It adds depth, character, and a touch of the timeless to your space. The uneven absorption of dye by wool fibers, the subtle variations in yarn thickness, or even the way knots are tied – all contribute to Abrash's unique charm. It's a reminder that true beauty lies in embracing nature's fingerprints. At Jaipur Rugs, we celebrate Abrash.  We believe it signifies the handcrafted nature of our rugs, each one a unique artwork. So, the next time you encounter this delightful imperfection, remember – it's not a flaw, but a testament to the artistry and history woven into every thread.

Jaipur Rugs is honoured to have created two important carpets for Homo Faber, which have been designed by the celebrated Italian film director Luca Guadagnino and the Milanese architect Nicolò Rosmarini. Working in close collaboration with the Homo Faber team, the carpets have been specially commissioned to match the proportions of two historically important rooms at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice. Of exceptional scale and shape, they have been crafted in parts and will be woven together on site in Venice as part of the cinematic scenography that brings together more than 300 of the world’s most important craft ateliers, curated by the Michelangelo Foundation. Selection for participation in Homo Faber is considered highly prestigious and Jaipur Rugs is proud to celebrate this moment with our artisans across India. @homofaber Fondazione Italia Giappone #homofaber #fondazione #venice #jaipurrugs

Jaipur Jubilee Stories Woven in Cinematic Threads Jaipur, the vibrant Pink City, has always been a muse for artists and filmmakers alike. In our Jaipur Jubilee series, we celebrate how these films capture the essence of our city on the silver screen. Today, we turn our spotlight to Zubeidaa (2001), a critically acclaimed period drama directed by the legendary Shyam Benegal. Loosely based on the life of Maharani Gayatri Devi, Zubeidaa takes viewers on a captivating journey through the royal courts of Jaipur. The grandeur of the film is truly breathtaking, and what better way to showcase this grandeur than by filming at the majestic Narain Niwas Palace itself! This stunning palace, built by General Amar Singh, is now a heritage hotel, but in Zubeidaa, it comes alive as a symbol of Jaipur's rich history and architectural brilliance. For those who have seen the movie, the intricate sets and opulent costumes no doubt left a lasting impression. At Jaipur Rugs, we strive to create rugs that are as captivating as the city itself. Each rug is a unique work of art, woven with the finest craftsmanship and echoing the timeless beauty of Jaipur. If you're ever in Jaipur, we invite you to visit our store at the Narain Niwas Kanota Yard. We would be delighted to share a piece of Jaipur's heritage with you. #jaipurrugs #jaipurjubliee #jaipuronscreen #zubaidaa #gayatridevi

Warp & Weft Chronicles Insights into Craftsmanship and Design. #Jaipurjargons Chapter 2 : Kilims Unlike its plush pile rug cousins, the kilim boasts a flat, tapestry-like construction, making it a marvel of both form and function. Kilims whisper tales of ancient nomads, their origins tracing back to Anatolia (present-day Turkey) as early as 7000 BC! At Jaipur Rugs, we pay homage to this time-honored craft. Kilim designs are more than just pretty pictures. They can be a language with geometric shapes and symbols reflecting tribal identity, beliefs, and aspirations. Each kilim tells a story, from fertility wishes woven in star patterns to protection charms depicted as amulets. Translating these ancient stories with meticulous craftsmanship, our artisans skillfully interlace vibrant threads, creating geometric patterns that dance with life. Unlike pile rugs, the beauty lies in the interplay of warp and weft, forming a design visible from both sides – a testament to expert planning and execution. #Jaipurrugs #Kilims #Jaipurkilims #roots #homage
