Because we believe it’s important to support our fellow ecological warriors in the fight against climate change⬇️ 🌿Our Eco Hero this week is the Palm Oil Detectives organization, a fully self-funded movement that aims to fight deforestation and potential extinction of native flora and fauna brought about by the rampant production of palm oil.  Global conglomerates in FMCG, personal care, and even the cosmetics industry profit immensely from palm oil, a cheap and invasive species that threatens the delicate balance of its ecological neighbours. 🌿What makes palm oil extremely detrimental to its surroundings is the fact that it has to be grown in the ashes of dead forests. This has led to industry giants actively contributing to deforestation and ecocide by sponsoring acres of land across the world for their profit. 🌱On their website, you can find the gory details of the extent to which palm oil can ruin not only ecosystems but also indigenous communities who are employed by these companies. She is a cosmetic scientist and a science communicator who also serves on the Supply Chain and Sustainability Resource Committee for the Independent Beauty Association, which happens to be among her many achievements. 🌻The Eco Well website offers blogs, interviews, industry-wide panel discussions, conferences and a podcast where Jen speaks to multiple industry specialists covering a wide range of subject matter. From cosmetic formulation, animal testing and toxicology to silicone sustainability and sustainability in cosmetics, The Eco Well boasts a diverse range of information for everyone-- be it a rookie or an expert. 🪴Jen herself is currently pursuing a PhD in Environmental Sustainability at the University of Ottawa and aims to dispel misinformation in the space of sustainability development from a cosmetic perspective. 💄Misinformation can be shared by anybody, sometimes even the experts.
