  • Designing a home for a client with an art collection is always special. In this instance, it was not just any art collection, but a significant one, with several pieces from the Bengal School. Speaking on the design brief of the project, Monica says, “The family wanted to live with the art, not just display it, as in a gallery. Consequently, art is not the focus of attention. It sits back, waiting to participate in an intimate dialogue with viewers, rather than initiating any conversation.” Monica Khosla Bhargava Kham Consultants Read more: https://lnkd.in/gsiSaY_x

  • Decades-old kitchens today are quite underpowered, as, during those times, the idea of safety was quite different to what is perceived now. Today, while remodelling or creating a new kitchen, architects are adding ground-fault-protected circuits. These have become mandatory by safety codes today. During the overhaul of a kitchen, many designers opt for upgrading the wiring, which is an extremely easy process. But this is possible only if the service panel has enough space for new breakers. More often than not, the panel is small; therefore, upgrading both the service and the panel is necessary. In most markets, this process can be a bit pricey for homeowners, but architects are well-aware that incorporating the process is a necessity in today’s times. The kitchen is often referred to as the ‘heart of the home’ and acts as a multifunctional space for many households. As the famous architect, Le Corbusier aptly said, “Architecture is the learned game, correct and magnificent, of forms assembled in the light.” Deciding whether the area requires cool or warm lighting is important as the colour tone can completely transform the room. Strategically placed lighting gives the kitchen what it needs the most, for the wide range of functions that kitchens perform that sets the standard for the rest of the home. Whatever the design of the lights, it's important to remember the old saying of ‘less is more’ with decorative lighting. Overdoing it with decorative lighting can make for a gaudy and flashy appearance whereas a minimalist approach can bring an understated refinement to the room. The kitchen is the centre of the home, but when someone is unable to safely or easily move through this important hub, life becomes difficult. In a kitchen, meticulous care is taken in choosing nearly everything from the style of the cabinetry to the brand of light bulbs used; however, ventilation, one of the key pieces to good functionality, is often overlooked. Without adequate ventilation, a kitchen is more likely to transform into a pollution factory primarily due to HOGS – heat, odour, grease, smoke and steam. All of these cooking by-products contribute to the danger of fire, increased humidity and temperature, more cleaning and unpleasant smells. Thus, to eliminate HOGS, an appropriate ventilation system is vital. Read more: https://lnkd.in/d3a-pk32 #kitchenideas #kitchen #kitcheninspiration

In Indian homes, the rustic kitchen evokes a sense of warmth, comfort, and nostalgia that transcends time and trends. It's all about keeping things simple and traditional, which makes it feel warm and comforting. India's rich culture adds even more charm to this style of kitchen. It blends old-fashioned ways with realness and usefulness, making it feel like a perfect fit in any Indian home. While there is a growing aspiration for having a modern and high-tech kitchen, on the other end of the spectrum, many cherish the allure of rustic theme. Urban minimalism has been one of the predominant trends in recent times, especially, in the kitchen, where the optimum utilisation of available space is necessary. In a perfectly organised kitchen, every object has its own place where it can be stored strategically, so as to be found readily when required. This also applies to the contents of drawers and pull-outs. The drawer is an open-topped storage container that maximises storage and makes the kitchen extra functional. It camouflages the potentially messy areas of the space while giving the kitchen a seamless look. Read the full article: https://lnkd.in/d9U46dMG #kitchenideas #kitchen
