This project was a good learning towards implementing a waste management project in an urbanising village. We thank Forbes Marshall giving us the opportunity to develop this concept.

Savardari is a village located in the Khed district of Pune, India. The village has been experiencing rapid industrialisation around it which led to; an increase in the population of the village and increase in the amount of waste generated. The Forbes Marshall manufacturing plant is also located in the same area. As an effort to help the village cope up with management of waste, Forbes Marshall partnered with Know How Foundation INORA and the Savardari Grampanchayat , the local governing body to implement an Integral Waste Management Project in 2017. The pilot began with public outreach and creating awareness amongst the population about waste segregation. A dedicated space was then allotted for the waste being produced. Around 1.5 tons of wet waste was composted while the dry waste was recycled. The outcome of sale of the compost produced manifested in the form of an income of over INR 2.5 million to the local governing body. INR 0.35 million worth of compost was consumed by the local farmers instead of fertilizers. The project ended in 2023 with Forbes Marshall and Know How Foundation handing over the project to the Grampanchayat. By fostering a culture of responsible waste disposal, recycling, and resource conservation, we not only mitigated the adverse impacts of solid waste but also moved towards a future where local bodies serve as exemplars of environmental stewardship and sustainable living. #ForbesMarshall #BeyondBusiness #EnergisingCommunities

We are thrilled to partner with Mahindra Lifespaces in a CSR project along with Parisar Asha to work with 5 schools in PCMC to begin the Green Army Program for 600+ 5th and 6th std students. Although zero waste will be the focus of the program, sustainability topics such as energy saving, water conservation and fitness & health will also be touched upon. At the end of the classroom session, students become members of the Green Army after taking a pledge to implement the learning in their homes and to teaching their friends. Practical demonstrations of circular economy through composting, collection of plastic for recycling, litter clean ups and gardens from waste will be included in each school which will practically engage students. Students will also maintain these facilities. They will be encouraged to carry the learning back home with them. Employees of Mahindra Lifespaces will also volunteer to organize, engage and share in the program. Mahindra Lifespace Developers Ltd. Project Zero Waste Tadoba : Enriching #cleanliness & #sustainability through Awareness Trainings at Schools. Tadoba Andhari Tiger Reserve (TATR) https://lnkd.in/dn6gtDkd

Celebrating #cleanliness and #sustainability   On the occasion of Mahatma Gandhi and Lal Bahadur Shastri's Jayanti on October 2nd, the young kids of Tadoba displayed their commitment to cleanliness and environmental awareness. Organized by the dedicated team of Project Zero-Waste Tadoba, the Swachhta competition witnessed enthusiastic participation from school kids in the region. To infuse an element of fun and spirited competition, the children were divided into six groups, each named after the splendid birds that grace the Tadoba landscape: Peacock, Lapwing, Golden Oriole, Cuckoo, Kingfisher, and Parrot. The event comprised two exhilarating rounds that left an indelible mark on the young minds. In the first round, an environmental quiz challenged the kids with questions centered around crucial topics such as waste segregation, the impact of plastic on the food chain, plastic's detrimental effects on the environment and human health, and the significance of conservation. What made this quiz truly engaging was the children's unique way of responding—by calling out the name of their designated bird group to answer questions. This interactive approach turned the learning process into a delightful and educational experience. The second round took the form of a clean-up drive, where the young eco-warriors fanned out to various designated locations in the villages, passionately spreading the message of "Swachh Moharli, Sundar Moharli." The impact of their efforts was not confined to the village alone; they ventured into the forest colony, where they were joined by officials from the Forest Department. The refreshing sight of kids actively participating in the clean-up drive, armed with enthusiasm and determination, served as a testament to their commitment to cleaner surroundings. As a token of appreciation for their hard work, the children were treated to refreshments, making this experience even more rewarding. This heartwarming activity underscored a profound truth: the children of rural India are indeed trailblazers, lighting the path for their villages towards cleaner, more sustainable environments. Their unwavering dedication to the cause of cleanliness and environmental awareness is a source of inspiration for us all.
