3 learnings from our first 100 paying customers. Back in 2014, we decided to take Elearnmarkets online. Our offline institute, Kredent Academy was doing well, but we realized that scaling it geographically would be a challenging. I had a gut feeling that online training can work, from my first startup Fireup. In 2008-09 it failed because the market wasn’t ready for online education. But by 2014, the scenario had shifted. People were starting to shift online not just for information but for structured learning. Honestly, no one was convinced internally that this would work. Initially, we launched free webinars to gauge interest. The immediate response was encouraging, however the enthusiasm didn’t translate into the kind of revenue we hoped for. I knew I had to pivot. Therefore, we decided to switch from free to paid webinars and the results were amazing. Our first paid webinar sold out within the first 30 minutes of registration. It was a surreal moment! This was the turning point that validated our belief in online education. The 3 learnings are: → Quality education is an investment that people are willing to make when they see tangible value in return. → You need to keep re-iterating your product by changing its shape, size, packaging and eventually perception. You need to adjust your price according to your target audience and see how they react. → Take risks and keep experimenting with your business model. Never make assumption that people want everything for free. How did you acquire your first customers? Share your experience below. #startup #customers
