Renewable Energy Semiconductor Manufacturing

Li-ion battery manufacturer and battery materials (cobalt, lithium, etc.) recycler enabling a circular supply chain.

About us

LOHUM powers next-gen li-ion battery mobility & energy solutions, gives batteries multiple lives through reuse technology, and makes battery materials last forever through recycling. LOHUM creates enhanced customer value through 3 primary technologies: 1) Lithium-ion battery manufacturing: We design and manufacture advanced lithium-ion batteries through proprietary technology and fabrication techniques. 2) Battery reuse or 2nd life solutions for used batteries: We identify healthy batteries through our proprietary cell testing and then reuse those batteries in another application. 3) Battery material recycling to recover valuable materials upon end-of-life: For batteries that cannot be reused, we recycle them to recover value materials such as cobalt, lithium, nickel and graphite. If recycled properly, these materials can be used over and over again without any performance degradation.

LOHUM Founder & CEO Rajat Verma was at the 19th Confederation of Indian Industry India Africa Business Conclave - 'Creating ONE Future', hosting high-profile dignitaries like Shri Piyush Goyal, Minister of Commerce & Industry, Shri Kirti Vardhan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs, Government of India, and close to 650 representatives from African Governments & Businesses. The event focused on the strategic role of India-Africa partnership in changing geo-political scenario. There, Rajat addressed the session on “Harnessing Critical Minerals for Sustainable Future”. Highlighting that from the #PlatinumGroupMetals, Africa has almost 80% of global gold reserves, he expressed- "So, we are talking about global reserves, which really can shake the needle significantly, and almost all these minerals are being refined in China. This is where we need to figure out how to collaborate on metals. Certainly, there are areas of collaboration around #infrastructure. LOHUM is already working on taking in various intermediate products and processing them further in India. We also do a lot of recycling of materials in India, but the core capability that we built as an organization is around refining. The market is not going to consume intermediates, and if you do not know how to refine the intermediates, you're taking the material back to China, which again will create the same monopoly that has now existed for too long in the world." #CriticalMinerals #EnergyTransition #Africa #India #Industry #CleanEnergy #AdvancedManufacturing

LOHUM's Vice President - Special Projects Pratyush Sinha was at the WRI India Battery360 Alliance launch event, focused on 'Developing a Circular and Sustainable Battery Value Chain'. The event hosted impactful panelists from India's battery and critical materials value chain, including from government & international organizations as well as key technology pioneers and large market players. The dialogue focused on India's lifecycle approach to batteries and clean energy transition, scaling up Battery Energy Storage Systems for the EV transition, R&D opportunities, indigenous & sustainable battery manufacturing, policy frameworks, industry-academia collaboration, and more. Addressing the topic of battery circularity and recycling technology maturity in India, Pratyush expressed: "The Indian recycling industry has come of age: We have the technology. Today, companies from across the world want to tie up with LOHUM to meet their recycling requirements. We are the only ones who can compete with China on price at a global level, and receive black mass for recycling from the US, UK, and EU as players in those regions cannot compete with the technology we have in India. It is time to act: For the last two years, we've been talking about policy. We finally have the policies in place, and I think it is time now that we move toward implementation, and focus on the nuts and bolts of the problem. EPR price: Extended Producer Responsibility pricing needs to be clearly determined with the scientific method, and taking a holistic approach, we need to look at both environmental and mineral security aspects. Data Availability: Data is important to make informed decisions. We need to know how much material there is in the country, and how much waste is being generated. We call for a National Dashboard, which may be linked to the CPCB portal, or a Ministry of Mines platform. Role of civil society: Civil society is needed to help tend to the eco-system, provide data and information through rigorous studies, and call out bad actors through investigative journalism into on-ground realities. If we all work together then we can truly make battery circularity a success." #EPR #Recycling #Battery #CircularEconomy #CriticalMaterials #EnergyTransition #Circularity #ExtendedProducerResponsibility ##battery360

Today, LOHUM was at the Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) Global Summit on Advanced Materials, Critical Minerals, and Metals, as Principal Partner! Addressing the inaugural session of the summit, LOHUM Founder & CEO Rajat Verma expressed- "Aluminum used to be a rare metal, priced at $1000 per kilo, in the 18th Century. After the discovery of reserves, the invention of technology, and an ecosystem that supported innovation, the price fell 100x. Now it is not critical, but a regular part of our experience. Titanium was discovered a few years before Aluminum in the 17th century, but for 200 years no one knew how to produce it commercially until the 1930s, when shortly before WW2 the US Mining Ministry gave the investment and the impetus to produce the material at larger scales. As of 2024, Titanium is viably used in aerospace, defense, infrastructure and machinery, vehicles, and more. Through these two stories of Aluminum and Titanium, I am trying to reflect that- there are a lot of fascinating researchers everywhere in the world who ultimately contribute to the progress of society. It is very imperative that researchers in both academia & industry come together and do what needs to be done to ensure that science progresses, and advancement in materials progresses. And these stories also show the extreme help that sometimes the government needs to provide to get the industry going. There is a lot of uncertainty when it comes to advancing science, that is just an inherent nature of science, and what I hope is that 50 or 100 years from now there will be a world out there that will say that, yes, there were some people who cared about these critical minerals and that is why they are no longer critical minerals." #CriticalMinerals #Metals #TransitionMaterials #EnergyTransition #Recycling #CircularEconomy https://lnkd.in/ghmty6EN
