About us
Ministry of Railways is a ministry within the Government of India, responsible rail transport in India through the statutory body "Indian Railways" which is wholly owned and operated by the ministry. It manages the fourth largest national railway system in the world by size, with a total route length of 67,956 km as of 31 March 2022. Ministry of Railways owns locomotive and coach-production facilities at several locations in India and it has about 1.254 million employees making it the world's eighth-largest employer.
