About us

Microwave Remote Sensing Lab (MRSLab) group at Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (INDIA) activities are centred on the remote-sensing of the Earth. The group comprises a multi-disciplinary team of scholars with expertise in remote-sensing, mathematics, physics, agriculture, engineering. The group’s activities evolve around the validation of remotely-sensed data, the efficient processing of these data and ways of exploiting them for real-world problems. We focus on developing methodologies for analyzing satellite images acquired using microwave sensors. Our primary research goal aims at exploring various applications of remotely sensed images for agriculture, snow and glacier studies and urban growth. Presently our interest lies in analyzing snow and glacier dynamics over the Himalayan region. Besides, we are focusing on agricultural crop assessment and monitoring through SAR and optical satellite systems. We also extend our expertise to remotely investigate extra terrestrial bodies. So far we have looked upon the Earth’s Moon and the planet Mars. In addition to this, we also use machine learning and statistical techniques for the analysis of remotely sensed images in various applications such as urban area classification, crop classification, mineral exploration etc.
