💡Making Cities Safer for Women: Insights from the CII-Nikore Associates Roundtable On 18 March 2025, the Confederation of Indian Industry Centre for Women's Leadership and Nikore Associates hosted a roundtable on 'One Stop to Full Stop: Ending Crimes Against Women', moderated by Ms Mitali Nikore, Founder & Chief Economist, Nikore Associates. Dr Debolina Kundu, Director, National Institute of Urban Affairs (NIUA), highlighted the critical role of safe cities in enabling women’s participation in the workforce. NIUA, as the premier think tank of the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs, plays a key role in shaping urban policies that prioritise safety and inclusivity. Dr Kundu emphasised the urgent need for: ✅ Holistic city planning—beyond a piecemeal approach, ensuring every citizen feels safe in public spaces, workplaces, and schools. ✅ Collaborative governance—public and private sectors must work together, leveraging best practices from well-performing cities. ✅ Institutionalising safety measures—allocating municipal budgets for surveillance, law enforcement, and sensitisation programmes in schools and workplaces. ✅ Safe public transport—ensuring women and children can move freely without fear at any hour. A safer India is key to achieving Viksit Bharat 2047!
