You don’t need to build a design system like Spotify’s. Or like Uber’s. You need to build a design system that works for "your" product. You need to understand which components are used most in your product or where the visual language breaks. And that’s why, you should audit your designs before building a design system. At one of India’s unicorn startups, the engineering team didn’t ship a new feature for a whole year. They realised they needed a design system and they dedicated all engineering capital towards building and integrating it. But not all design system teams can do that.
