As climate impacts intensify globally, the Emissions Gap Report 2024: No more hot air … please! finds that nations must deliver dramatically stronger ambition and action in the next round of Nationally Determined Contributions or the Paris Agreement’s 1.5°C goal will be gone within a few years.  The report looks at how much nations must promise to cut off greenhouse gases, and deliver, in the next round of Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), due for submission in early 2025 ahead of COP30. Cuts of 42 per cent are needed by 2030 and 57 per cent by 2035 to get on track for 1.5°C.  #cleanfuture #cop29 #unfccc #moefcc

Nations must close huge emissions gap in their new climate pledges and deliver immediate action or the goal of keeping warming below 1.5°C is lost. During the launch of the 2024 #EmissionsGap report, UNEP head Inger Andersen called for a global mobilisation on a scale never seen before to close the gap and avoid climate catastrophe. https://lnkd.in/ewCTtwVw

UNEP has just unveiled the State of Finance for Nature in Cities report which provides a new framework to track and bridge the gap in urban nature finance. The report comes amid a rise in climate impacts on cities and urban areas, globally. Experts say, cities can turn to cost-effective urban nature-based solutions to improve resilience, restore habitats and reduce pollution. Yet, scaling urban nature-based solutions requires investment, which cities struggle to secure due to lack of dedicated financial mechanisms, capacity and data. No more hot air…please! This is the rallying cry of the 2024 UNEP #EmissionsGap Report, which tracks the gap between where global emissions are heading with current country commitments and where they ought to be to limit warming. Ahead of #COP29, the world must unite for concrete #ClimateAction or else face dire consequences. Find out more in the report: https://lnkd.in/dG4qUHiW

Indian Scenario India regulates the lead content in paints through a combination of voluntary and mandatory standards:  Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) The BIS sets a voluntary limit of 1,000 parts per million (ppm) of lead in paint. The BIS also administers the Eco Mark scheme, which labels environmentally friendly products.  Regulation on Lead contents in Household and Decorative Paints Rules, 2016 This regulation prohibits the manufacturing, trade, export, and import of paints with lead concentrations above 90 ppm. It also requires that paints manufactured or imported after November 2017 be labeled with the lead content and the date of manufacture or import. Manufacturers and importers must also test their products annually before putting them into the supply chain. #FinishtheJob #BanLeadPainttoProtectChildrenHealth #legalprovisionforleadfreepaint #safefuture #BanLeadPaint #safechildhood #LeadPoisoning.

The twelfth International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week (ILPPW) organised by World Health Organization will take place from 20-26 October 2024. The focus of this year’s campaign “Bright Futures begin Lead Free” reminds governments, civil society organizations, health partners, industry and others of the unacceptable risks of lead exposure and the need for action to protect children's health. The campaign builds on the success in outlawing the use of lead in petrol and the progress achieved by many countries in establishing laws that limit the use of lead in paint, particularly those paints to which children are exposed in their homes, schools and playgrounds. #FinishtheJob #BanLeadPainttoProtectChildrenHealth #safefuture #BanLeadPaint #endchildhood #LeadPoisoning #choosewisely

International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week 20-26 October 2024 WHO identifies lead as one of 10 chemicals of major public health concern requiring action by Member States to protect the health of workers, children and women of child-bearing age. The global elimination of lead in petrol for road vehicles in 2021 and reductions in the use of lead in paint, plumbing and solder have resulted in a substantial decrease in population-level mean blood lead concentrations. However, significant sources of exposure remain, particularly in low- and middle income countries.  Lead Poisoning - Key facts 1. Exposure to lead can affect multiple body systems and is particularly harmful to young children and women of child-bearing age. 2. Lead is distributed to the brain, liver, kidney and bones. It is stored in the teeth and bones, where it can accumulate over time. Human exposure is assessed through the measurement of lead in blood. 3. Lead exposure was attributed to more than 1.5 million deaths globally in 2021, primarily due to cardiovascular effects. 4. Lead in bone is released into blood during pregnancy and becomes a source of exposure to the developing fetus. 5. There is no level of exposure to lead that is known to be without harmful effects. 6. The harmful impacts on health from lead exposure are entirely preventable. For more details visit https://lnkd.in/dxZC9DZM

Due to digital transformations, with technologies profoundly changing the way we live, work, learn, socialize, and do business, the generation of electronic waste is rising five times faster than documented e-waste recycling. This has a detrimental impact on the environment and human health. For #EwasteDay, and every day, take action to #BeatWastePollution by repairing what you can and disposing non usable electronics at collection centres. https://lnkd.in/eT-F3NNn
