We were about to create a Diwali greeting to share with you, when Dharmesh BA 🕵🏽♂️ came up with an even better idea. This year, it's time to do away with generic creatives – add your name and face to every greeting! If you don't love it, we bet you have some relatives that probably will, so help them out this festive season. It's available in ten languages, and with just a click, you can share it with everyone (yes, EVERYONE) on WhatsApp. Try it for yourself: https://diwali.design/ And a very happy Diwali from your friends at People+ai PS: Dharmesh has a lot of cool ideas, follow his newsletter for more of those: https://lnkd.in/gsdYjtJe Tanuj Bhojwani Tanvi Lall Asif Hassan David Joseph Menezes Sonia Rebecca Menezes Aswin Bhupalam

How well can AI actually handle medical conversations in Indian languages? Microsoft Research's Health Pariksha study helped answer that question. As part of the broader GEM (Global Evaluation of Models) initiative at People+ai, Health Pariksha aims to build a practical evaluation toolkit for model users and developers working on Indic tools. Through extensive testing at Sankara Hospital's post-cataract care unit, the team evaluated 25 AI models across multiple Indian languages, using real patient queries against doctor-verified answers. They analyzed how models handle mixed-language questions and cultural context. These are essential insights for developing healthcare chatbots across India's diverse linguistic landscape. This research helps bridge a crucial gap between theoretical AI capabilities and real-world healthcare needs. It's particularly exciting because it could help shape how we develop and deploy healthcare chatbots across India's linguistically diverse landscape. Plus, it gives us a realistic picture of where current AI technology stands – what works, what doesn't, and most importantly, what we need to focus on to make these systems truly accessible and reliable for everyone, regardless of what language they speak. Our favorite moments from Mannotsava 2024 💚 Thank you to everyone who stopped by to talk to us us about Sukoon's mental health chatbot. Being part of India's first mental health festival was truly special – seeing so many people come together to have open, honest conversations about mental wellbeing filled our hearts. Special thanks to NIMHANS, NCBS, and RNP for creating this wonderful space where technology, healthcare, and community could meet. Your stories and enthusiasm mean the world to us!

Why are Indian AI Companies Obsessed with Indic Language Models? Since the launch of ChatGPT, the quest for the next big generative AI model has exploded—especially in India! Startups like Sarvam and Ola’s Krutrim are paving the way, focusing on AI for 22 official languages! From Bengali to Sanskrit, it’s all about making AI accessible for every Indian. As Tanuj Bhojwani from People+ai puts it, we need models that truly understand India's linguistic nuances. With less than 7% fluent in English, the demand for native language AI is HUGE! 🚨 A story that has been dividing the internet Infosys chairman Nandan Nilekani: ‘Let the big boys in the Valley build LLMs; we will use it to solve real-world problems' Infosys chairman and Aadhaar architect Nandan Nilekani remains steadfast in his vision of establishing India as the artificial intelligence (AI) use-case capital of the world, rather than focusing on the hypercompetitive race of building Large Language Models (LLMs). "Our goal should not be to build one more LLM. Let the big boys in the (Silicon) Valley do it, spending billions of dollars. We will use it to create synthetic data, build small language models quickly, and train them using appropriate data," Nilekani said. by Vikas SN https://lnkd.in/g5VpU5sC
