The second-year cohort of IIM Lucknow - PGP Sustainable Management recently concluded a two-week international immersion program at the Maastricht School of Management in the Netherlands. This experience offered valuable insights into sustainable business practices, finance, and smart city development, enhancing students’ understanding of global sustainability challenges from a European perspective. Beyond academic sessions, the program featured field visits to companies such as Nedlin and Gulpener Brewery. These visits demonstrated how Dutch companies are effectively implementing circular economy practices and local sourcing strategies, setting benchmarks for sustainable operations and community engagement. Overall, this international immersion served as a valuable platform for learning, networking, and cultural exchange, significantly enhancing the participants’ journey in sustainable management. His insightful session focused on improving climate conditions through better management of paddy straw in Punjab. Key takeaways from the session: • Travel to Understand: To grasp India's real challenges, it's essential to travel and see how the country operates at the grassroots level. • Systemic Solutions: Addressing air pollution requires broad, systemic changes, not just sector-specific approaches. • AQI Insight: The Air Quality Index (AQI) has gained focus in the last decade, with different pollution drivers in various regions—vehicular emissions in Delhi, stubble burning in Punjab, and rapid construction in Haryana. • Ongoing Challenges: Despite numerous government initiatives, stubble burning remains a significant issue. • Case Study Engagement: Mr. Bansal led an interactive case study on air pollution from stubble farming, showcasing how deeper insights can identify core issues. • Passion and Humility: He emphasized that working in collaboration with the government requires passion for ground-level work and humility when receiving feedback. Students of IIM Lucknow - PGP Sustainable Management had the privilege of hosting Radhesh Agrahari, the founder of one of the country's most innovative design and product startups. His venture, Golden Feathers, transforms chicken butchery waste into versatile fibers, paving the way for sustainable fashion apparel that you can proudly wear without guilt. As part of my course on social entrepreneurship, Mr. Agrahari shared valuable insights from his entrepreneurial journey, recounting his inspiring story of perseverance through experimentation and ideation until he discovered a viable solution. He encouraged our sustainability management students to think creatively and integrate a passion for sustainable solutions into their daily lives as they strive to make a meaningful impact in their careers. His journey, which began with a college project at #NIFT, underscores the vital role that supportive ecosystems in educational institutions play in fostering entrepreneurship. We had an insightful theatre workshop by Mr. Dipendra Rawat from the National School of Drama (NSD) as part of CSM. Mr. Rawat, with over two decades of experience, led a highly engaging session that explored various aspects of communication, leadership, and self-discovery through theatre. During the session, students participated in activities that improved their public speaking, helped them develop team-building skills, and provided a real-world understanding of how to lead effectively.
