Let's be honest: we are fascinated with Silicon Valley! Whether it's a famous sitcom or the Californian hub of high-tech companies, it's true for both. And why not? After all, they have nailed both science and technology with their urge for innovation. And this hunger is worth appreciating. But over the years, haven't we lost ourselves to the American dream? People with the highest potential leave their land for a place far away and do exceptional work. It wasn't until Shark Tank India showed us the startup culture in India, we always patronized the West for bringing out innovation. But this should make us think, why is it that technology only comes from certain places on this planet? Why is it that certain people from certain origins can create world-class companies and products? Is this the American dream, the land of opportunities? Or are we not capable enough? The next big artist from India, could be sitting behind a MacBook writing an invoice for paperclips, because it pays his bills, or because it is comfortable, or maybe because society has led him to believe that mediocrity is normal life. That's how we are made to forget our desires and settle for worthless things driven by society. When I was in Pune and started my hustle, my friend's first reaction was, "Pagal hai kya? Pune mein reh kar world-class products kaise banenge?" Of course, I didn’t agree. I gathered a team of nomads and dreamers like me who believed in dreaming big and achieving it. These people at Phynart did not come from fancy institutions, barely knew English, but had the power to achieve anything. We challenged the societal norms, the belief that to build a world-class product, you need better education, support, and experience. Phynart believes that great work does not need to come only from high-tech lavish offices or institutions in California, Paris, or London. It can come from anyone, anywhere, at any time. It’s startups like us that have to innovate and fuel this revolution of economic growth. It could be anything—starting from a chair to a table, to a film, or a gadget. It's high time we get our asses on it. We can either sit and complain about why we have no value in the global domain, or we can take action and correct it. Start asking yourself, what are you settling for? Mediocrity? Compromise? Unhappiness? Just so we can get some sense of achievement as per the norms society has set for us? Screw that! We beg to differ. We strive to settle for nothing less than passion, happiness, excellence, and love for what we do. Waiting for the next big thing in your life? Think about this! Be you, be better. From a tiny 250 sq.ft. cabin to being among the TOP 50 EMERGING D2C startups of 2024. We have come a long way! 🫡 A small apartment, 3 minds pouring in their blood & sweat... It was a home-cum-launchpad for us. Our jackets and bags served as the bed & pillows for those exhausting nights. Short naps, and we were back to work with a cup of morning coffee! Closing my eyes to remember how we navigated through all of it gives me goosebumps. Cut to today, where Phynart is recognized among the top 50 emerging D2C startups of 2024. It’s been nothing short of a roller coaster ride. As a token of gratitude and to mark this achievement, I want to share 7 key learnings from my journey (from one founder to another): 1️⃣ Be childish 👉If your vision doesn’t sound childish in your head, it’s not a big enough vision. Dream big. Have the balls to own it and move towards it. 2️⃣ Hold your horses 👉 Everything looks so exciting and easy at the start, but resist the urge of ‘sab kuch karenge.’ Have a big vision, but set very small, achievable milestones and go get them. 3️⃣ Start small 👉 It’s not just fancy to add ‘started from a garage’ to your brand pitch. It means a lot. Don’t hesitate to take up affordable options, even if they’re not cool. At an early stage, it’s your work that matters. 4️⃣ Be shameless to ask for help 👉 Even if it’s about money! But in return, build something that can gain trust, impress your close ones, and scale to the next level. 5️⃣ Hunger is the mother of growth 👉 If you’re really desperate for growth, you’ll find people with the same vibe. Onboard hungry people instead of experts. Invest in their hunger. These will be your pillars when you actually stand tall. 6️⃣ Be ready to get rejected 👉 You will have more bad days that good ones. Happens to everyone, but persistence is the key. (There's a thin line between persistence & madness. Be sure of your direction & results you get. Otherwise persistence without results is just WISHFUL THINKING.) 7️⃣ Repeat this for the next 3-7 years 👉 Rome wasn’t built in a day. Startups are a shot in the dark. But push yourself harder throughout, and you too will build something you are proud of. And that’s it. So much to say, but let’s park that for another day.
