An Indian man asking American singer and actress Selena Gomez to chant “Jai Shree Ram” has taken the internet by storm with mixed reactions pouring in. In the video, a man asked Gomez to chant "Jai Shree Ram". When Gomez appears puzzled, the man attempts to clarify, adding, "India's best slogan - Jai Shree Ram." However, the 32-year-old Gomez, politely dismissive, responds with a simple, "Aww, thank you, honey." The video was first shared by Instagram user Pallav Paliwal and has rapidly gained traction across social media platforms. Mr Paliwal captioned it, "One of our followers met Selena Gomez and she said 'Jai Shree Ram' on the occasion of Diwali." While several people reacted positively to the post, the video was also criticised widely. "India's best slogan? Pipe down blud it's not related to the nation, "Jai Hind" is India's best slogan," wrote one user while another said: "How embarrassing and disgusting. Would you say "hail Jesus" if she insisted." Netizens also ridiculed the man calling him uneducated as they expressed their embarrassment after seeing the video. However, some social media users also appreciated the man for being proud of his religion. . . . #india #us #usa #singer #selenagomez #jaishreeram #hindu #socialmedia #news #politics

The INDIA bloc on Saturday filed a formal complaint against Assam Chief Minister and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Himanta Biswa Sarma, accusing him of making “inflammatory and divisive” statements during a campaign rally in Jharkhand. The complaint, addressed to the Election Commission of India and the state's Chief Electoral Officer, was submitted by representatives of the Rashtriya Janata Dal (RJD), Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist), Congress, and Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM). In a speech delivered on November 1 in Sarath, Sarma reportedly claimed that Muslims predominantly vote for a single party, while Hindu votes are divided. He further alleged that the Hemant Soren-led state government “invites infiltrators” because of voting loyalties from “a special community.” In another speech, Sarma says, "If we lose, this is the land of Tilka Manjhi, Nilamber-Pitamber, Sidhu-Kanhu, and Bhagwan Birsa Munda. Irfan, Ansari, Alam, these people will loot it. They have looted our daughters, looted our land, and looted our government. We have to raise our voices; we have to unite. Whether it is BJP or Janata Dal, we have to unite Jharkhand by voting for NDA. We have to create a new Jharkhand as Atal Bihari Vajpayee envisioned. Atal Bihari Vajpayee created Jharkhand for you people, but today you have nothing in your favor." Referring to these remarks, the INDIA bloc, in a letter to the CEO, said, “His use of extremely divisive and hateful language targeting Muslim minorities” exemplifies the "venomous language used to create a civil war-like situation" in Jharkhand, violating the principles of free and fair elections. The Assembly election in Jharkhand is scheduled to be held in two phases on November 13 and November 20. . . . #india #assam #jharkhand #jharkhandelection #himantabiswasarma #bjp #congress #jmm #hemantsoren #electioncommission #elections #news #politics

Hyderabad food safety officials on Tuesday uncovered serious violations at Zomato’s Hyperpure warehouse, including 18 kilograms of button mushrooms labeled with a future packing date of October 30, 2024. The inspection at the Kukatpally facility highlighted significant food safety violations, including the presence of house flies and food handlers not adhering to hygiene standards. Food Business Operators (FBO) are responsible for supplying a wide range of products—including fresh fruits, vegetables, meat, seafood, gourmet items, packaging materials, consumables, and kitchen equipment—to hotels, restaurants, and catering services. Officials noted that the warehouse lacked proper insect-proof screens, raising concerns about consumer health. A representative from the Food Safety Department stated, “Such practices compromise public health and must be addressed immediately.” Consumers have expressed outrage on social media, calling for stricter regulations and accountability from food suppliers. This incident follows a June raid on a Blinkit warehouse, also owned by Zomato, where similar violations were reported. In the past few days, officials have uncovered serious issues at sweet shops ahead of Diwali, a momo outlet after health complaints and shawarma units in certain places. Zomato has yet to respond to the findings, which follow previous safety concerns at another of its warehouses, raising questions about the company’s commitment to food safety. . . . #india #telangana #hyderabad #zomato #blinkit #food #hygiene #diwali #news #politics

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's remarks on Friday targeting Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge over election promises have sparked a heated political exchange. The remarks came following an advice by Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge to its State units to make only those promises that were financially viable. “The Congress Party is realising the hard way that making unreal promises is easy but implementing them properly is tough or impossible. Campaign after campaign they promise things to the people, which they also know they will never be able to deliver. Now, they stand badly exposed in front of the people," said Modi. On Friday, Congress launched a multi-pronged attack on Modi regarding his comments about the party’s poll guarantees. Kharge referred to the “Modi Ki Guarantee” as a “cruel joke” on the Indian populace, stating that the ‘B’ in BJP stands for ‘betrayal’ and ‘J’ for ‘jumla.’ He described Modi’s claims as characterized by “lies, deceit, fakery, loot, and publicity,” condemning the Prime Minister’s 100-day plan as a mere public relations stunt. On Saturday, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of “destroying” the dignity of his office and urged him to focus on “restoring the dignity of his post by resorting to truth” rather than worrying about the Congress party. Additionally, Congress media and publicity department head Pawan Khera claimed that Congress governments have fulfilled their commitments and alleged that Modi deleted a tweet attacking the party after being fact-checked. . . . #india #karnataka #telangana #himachalpradesh #congress #bjp #narendramodi #mallikarjunkharge #priyankagandhi #rahulgandhi #fact #elections #news #politics

An inhuman incident has come to light in the tribal-dominated Dindori district of Madhya Pradesh where a 5-month pregnant woman was allegedly forced to clean the blood from the hospital bed on which her husband had died. In the video, Roshni, who is five months pregnant, can be seen cleaning the bed, with a hospital staff telling her to ensure the entire bed is cleaned prompting outrage from the public. In one hand she was holding a blood-stained cloth and cleaning the bed using tissues with the other hand. The hospital staff were issued a show-cause notice after the video went viral. However, Dr. Chandrashekhar Tekam of the health centre told the media that Roshni collected blood-soaked cloth pieces in an attempt to gather evidence and was not explicitly instructed to clean the bed. A shooting incident occurred in Lalpur village, part of the tribal-dominated Dindori district, during a confrontation over a long-standing land dispute. On Thursday afternoon, a father and his three sons were attacked by a group of relatives while trying to reclaim their land, which had been awarded to them through a court ruling in 2018. Tragically, the father and one son died at the scene, while another son, Shivraj, was rushed to Gadasarai Health Centre but succumbed to his injuries. A case has been registered under various sections, including murder, while the condition of the third son, who is also critically injured, is being monitored at the district hospital. . . . #india #madhyapradesh #tribal #hospital #health #bjp #woman #pregnant #news #politics

As India basked in the glow of Diwali celebrations, the West was equally immersed in Halloween festivities. However, a rather unusual incident overshadowed the usual joy when an Indian woman in Canada was caught stealing candies meant for kids on October 31. The woman, alleged to be an Indian, is seen in the video going to multiple houses and stealing sweets and candies. She even stole the lights, kids' bicycle and bowls at some houses. The incident reportedly happened in the Cornell locality in Markham city, Ontario. Harrison Faulkner, a media personality and host of The Faulkner Show, shared the clip on X (formerly Twitter), captioning it, "Trick or Steal spotted in Markham, Ontario last night. What is going on?" The post has since garnered over 5 lakh views, sparking a flurry of comments and reactions from users. After the incident caused massive outrage on social media, Markham city councillor Andrew Keyes issued a statement, saying that the woman "suffers from a mental health disorder. Her family deeply regrets these things happened and is very sorry". He said that the stolen things would be returned to the families affected. He also urged those affected by the woman's act to contact him so that he may put them in touch with the woman's families. Dismissing Keyes's statement, one X user said: "I don’t buy it. I have suffered from some debilitating mental health conditions my entire life and I’ve never felt the urge to steal Halloween candy from an entire neighbourhood." . . . #india #canada #markham #ontario #halloween #candy #candies #diwali #indian #halloweencostume #news #politics

The cost of commercial LPG cylinders in metro cities increased on Friday after oil marketing companies announced a price hike. The rate for a 19-kg commercial LPG cylinder in Delhi has been increased by Rs 62 from November 1, bringing the retail price to Rs 1,802, up from the previous Rs 1,740. The revised rate comes into effect from today. On October 1, oil marketing companies also raised the rate of the 19-kg commercial LPG gas cylinder by Rs 48.50, bringing the retail price in Delhi to Rs 1,740. In September, the price of the 19-kg commercial LPG gas cylinder was increased by Rs 39, setting the retail price at Rs 1,691.50. In August also, oil companies had announced a hike of Rs 8.50, with the cylinder then priced at Rs 1,652.50. This marks the fourth consecutive monthly hike in the price of the 19-kg LPG cylinder. The recent increase in commercial LPG cylinder prices is expected to directly affect restaurants, hotels, and other businesses dependent on LPG for daily operations. Higher operating expenses may lead these businesses to raise prices, passing some of the financial burden onto consumers. Apart from Delhi, the price of the 19-kg commercial LPG gas cylinder has also increased in Mumbai, Chennai, and Kolkata. With the latest hike, the retail price is now Rs 1,754.50 in Mumbai, Rs 1,964.50 in Chennai, and Rs 1,911.50 in Kolkata. While commercial LPG prices continue to climb, domestic LPG cylinder costs have stayed stable, providing some relief to households. . . . #india #cylinder #lpg #hotel #restaurant #food #delhi #mumbai #chennai #news #politics

A Muslim woman was denied food distributed to patients and their relatives outside Mumbai's Tata Hospital because she refused to obey the distributor's demand to chant the slogan "Jai Shri Ram." In a video of the incident, which has gone viral, the woman can be heard arguing with the man serving food at the makeshift stall. He tells her to either chant 'Jai Shri Ram' or to exit the line. When she refused, he told her she would not receive food if she did not say the slogan. According to reports, some non-governmental organisations (NGO) distributed food to the patients and their family members who visit the hospital for treatment. In the video, the man can be heard saying, "Jisko Ram nahin bolna hai line me khada nahi ho" (Those who won’t say Ram should not stand in line). He then asks her to leave, saying, "Laat marunga" (I’ll kick you), as she responds that she isn’t standing on his father's property. The incident has sparked outrage on social media, with users criticising the distributor's behavior. "They are not an NGO if they refuse to give food just because someone isn’t chanting the slogan they want! Disgusting," wrote one user. Another user said, “That man is a joke. The NGO should be informed of his behaviour. Shame on him and shame on the NGO. If anyone knows which NGO this is, we can escalate this matter. Absolutely shameful behaviour. Is this what Hinduism is? Is this what Ram stands for? Disgusting.” As the incident went viral, a post of Rajya Sabha MP & Congress leader Imran Pratapgarhi has also surfaced. He wrote on X - "Our Prophet Hazrat Muhammad had said that if your neighbor is hungry, then eating is forbidden for you. That neighbor may be of any religion. Who are these people who are immersed in hatred and want to raise religious slogans in the name of feeding a hungry person, will they get virtue by doing such things? Society should publicly boycott such mentality". . . . #india #maharashtra #mumbai #tata #ratantata #hindu #muslim #food #ngo #hospital #hate #jaishreeram #news #politics

In what comes as an embarrassment for the BJP, veteran politician Nawab Malik, who is part of Ajit Pawar-led NCP, on Tuesday, filed nomination papers from the Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar Assembly constituency of Mumbai. Samajwadi Party's Abu Azmi is the sitting MLA from Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar. Nawab Malik is the sitting MLA from Anushakti Nagar in the Mumbai South-Central parliamentary constituency. This time, his daughter Sana Malik is contesting from the Anushakti Nagar constituency on the NCP ticket. “I am very thankful to (Deputy Chief Minister and NCP President Ajit Pawar), (NCP Working President) Praful Patel and (NCP Maharashtra unit President) Sunil Tatkare. They have confidence in me. A huge number of voters will definitely support me. I am very confident that this time we will win Mankhurd Shivaji Nagar constituency,” Malik said. The BJP, particularly Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Mumbai unit President Ashish Shelar, were against nominations to Malik because of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) case against him and alleged property dealings with people linked to underworld don and the mastermind of 1993 serial blasts Dawood Ibrahim. The BJP has declared Shiv Sena’s Suresh Krishna Patil, who is also known as Bullet Patil, as its “official” candidate, following the NCP's nomination of Nawab Malik for the same constituency. In February 2022, Malik was arrested by the ED under the provisions of the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) - in connection with a money laundering probe linked to the activities of Dawood Ibrahim. . . . #india #maharashtra #mumbai #ncp #nawabmalik #ajitpawar #shivsena #eknathshinde #bjp #devendrafadnavis #maharashtraelections #news #politics

In a defiance to the international community, Israel has passed two legislations banning the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) from operating in territories under Israel's control and declaring UNRWA a “terror” group and bans Israeli officials from any contact with the agency. The legislation, passed on Monday, risks collapsing the already fragile aid distribution process at a moment when the humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening, and Israel is under increased pressure to allow in aid supplies. The ban is set to take effect in 90 days and lead to the closure of UNRWA’s premises in the Palestinian territory – the West Bank, including East Jerusalem – and Gaza, effectively paralysing the agency’s ability to fulfil its mandate as set out by the UN General Assembly in 1949. UNRWA is the leading agency running humanitarian aid in Gaza, which has been devastated by more than a year of Israel’s war. Hundreds of UNRWA workers have been killed in Israeli strikes, making it the deadliest conflict for UN workers. Several leaders around the world condemned Israel’s decision to ban the UNRWA, calling it “illegal” and reiterating their support for the organization. British Prime Minister Keir Starmer said in a statement the UK is “gravely concerned” at the bills passed by Israel as they jeopardize the “entire international humanitarian response” in Gaza. The Belgium Foreign Ministry said that it “sets a disastrous precedent that deeply undermines the multilateral system and the United Nations itself,” a concern also raised by Ireland, Norway, Slovenia and Spain, in a joint statement Monday evening that condemned the Israeli legislation. The US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller said during a briefing Monday that the US government was “deeply concerned” about the vote in the Israeli parliament and that UNRWA had an “irreplaceable” role in providing aid to the Gaza Strip. . . . #israel #palestine #palestinian #usa #gaza #unitednations #unrwa #benjaminnetanyahu #un #news #politics
