Transforming Traditions Into Trend | Revival of India's only UNESCO listed craftform

About us

P-TAL stands for the Punjab Thathera Art Legacy. P-TAL aims at reviving the dying craft form of the indigenous Thatheras community of Jandiala Guru, Amritsar. The Thatheras of Jandiala Guru are a community of skilled craftsmen who specialize in the traditional technique of making hand crafted brass, copper and bell metal utensils by hammering metal sheets. This unique craft of the Thateras of Jandiala Guru in Amritsar is the first craft of India to be inscribed in the UNESCO’s Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2014. Like the Thatheras, P-TAL is an epitomy of making tradition a trend, preserving legacy through legal entity converting practice into perfection thus moulding the vessels of hope!

Today is the biggest day of sales for us! Every year, buying utensils and brass-copper-bronze is considered highly auspicious on Dhanteras, and we at P-TAL (Punjabi Thathera Art Legacy) provide you both in the most authentic, aesthetic and artisanal form. Dhanteras 2024 has just started and: 1. We’ve sold more kansa dinner sets today than we have sold in total in the last 15 days. 2. Revenue from copper bottle >>> Revenue from all products sold in Dhanteras 2022 3. Sales from gift sets is 4.5x of the gifting sales from all of October last year. Before this, our highest sales in a single day happened 1 day after our Shark Tank episode was aired this year. With 11 hours still to go before the day ends, we have already crossed 40% of the volume we did on that day! If you’ve been looking to buy P-TAL products, this is the perfect time to do so! Available on our website (globally), Amazon (globally), Blinkit (in Gurgaon, Bangalore, Mumbai) and also our retail outlet in New Delhi (in GK-1 M Block Market). Kirti Goel Gaurav Garg

This is what Jagjeet Ji, one of our artisans said when we asked him what would be a good Diwali gift for him: “Agar aap iss diwali humare haathon se banaye huye cheezein aapke apno ko gift karoge, toh usse bada gift humare liye kuch nahi hoga!” We want to make sure our artisans have the best celebrations and we need your help in doing so! It has been the support of all our beloved customers at P-TAL (Punjabi Thathera Art Legacy) over the years that has helped us help our artisans to earn over ₹6 lakhs per annum on an average, with some of the artisans earning as high as ₹20 lakhs per annum against earning just ₹24 thousand per annum a couple of years ago. Every gift purchased helps us impact more artisans and increase their incomes by over 10% The impact each gift makes is truly insane, one of our artisans earned over ₹3 lakhs in 2 days through a gifting order placed by a corporate client. If you’re yet to decide what to gift for Diwali, this would be a great opportunity to gift something healthy and long lasting for your loved ones, and prosperity for our artisans! :) Kirti Goel Gaurav Garg

I left my home and spent over a month in the US, but at the end of it, it never felt like leaving home. The kind of love we got for P-TAL (Punjabi Thathera Art Legacy) from both Indians and non-Indians was wholesome: 1. One family (who had purchased our products) was so gracious that they offered me to stay at their home for my entire trip of 25 days! 2. Abha aunty, whom we had met 2 years ago through P-TAL, hosted me over a delicious homely Indian meal that she had cooked for me. Dal, chawal, pahadi aloo, saag, paneer, raita, alongwith desi ghee, was a true delight. 3. Another family offered to drop me to the JFK airport all the way from New Jersey, which is a 80+ kms drive one way! At P-TAL, it has always been about focusing more on people and products, which eventually leads to profits, both monetarily and emotionally. Grateful for having made connections that are timeless. The bonds built are a key metric for us while building the brand and business!

This is something that has not let me sleep since the time I have come from the US. After visting 100+ stores amongst the likes of William Sonoma, Crate & Barrel, Pottery Barn and many others in New York and New Jersey, I could not find any Indian kitchenware and cookware brand there. This evoked a lot of emotions and hunger for a mission. Our 1 month trip to the US has not only given us great insights but also has built a lot of conviction for us. Before going there, we were wondering if the market would accept us but after staying there, we realised that the market is waiting for exactly what we have to offer! We have been growing over 100% M-o-M in the US in the last few months and now want to go deeper in the market. We have a mission to make people across the globe fall in love with the experience of using traditional Indian utensils. It’s going to be exciting and we would need you! If you’re a student living in the US and have around 4-6 hours to spare over the weekends, join us as a P-TAL (Punjabi Thathera Art Legacy) ambassador to take our Indian craft global while also earning remuneration and other great incentives. Link to apply is in the comments. Looking forward to a day when we don’t get to see an Indian kitchenware brand in the US not because it is unavailable but because it gets sold out for getting immense love from people :)

I had the best flight experience last night, and it was not because of: •Comfortable seats •Good food •Bigger leg room These things were there but what stole the show was this feature of P-TAL (Punjabi Thathera Art Legacy) by Vistara - TATA SIA Airlines Ltd. in their latest in-flight magazine! Nothing makes us more happy than seeing our handcrafted traditional Indian utensils being appreciated on global platforms. As we all get to experience Vistara for the final few months, being recognised as one of the trending favourites of our favourite airlines in their special ‘Gourmet’ issue truly means a lot to us. What’s the best part? This is a completely organic (non-paid) feature. Vistara gave a gift to us, and we want to give you one too: If you spot us, please do share a picture on social media and we would love to gift 2 random winners a business class domestic ticket on any route of their preference! Kadhai, Patila, Lota: why are these shapes the way they are? What problems are they solving, are they solving problems or actually just creating new? I studied so many different cookware designs and arrived on pretty much similar shapes. This made me wonder if there is a reason, or everyone just went about copying the first version and improvising it further. A lot many questions without much answers. But that’s the fun about it, to just wonder and explore solutions for them! We at P-TAL (Punjabi Thathera Art Legacy) are creating a movement where people also focus on how they cook and consume food. We want to be their first choice of kitchenware products. Would love to create innovative designs with like minded designers, if this is something that interests you, let’s join hands! Form link is in the comments, do apply!

If there was one product that was most demanded since the day we launched P-TAL, it was a ‘Copper Bottle’. Fairly so, since everyone from the age of 10 to 100 years old can use it! At P-TAL (Punjabi Thathera Art Legacy), we did not want to design just another copper bottle, we wanted to design the experience of drinking water. There are 1000s of copper bottles in the market, out of which: -90% are not actually made from pure copper -85% of the bottles are not ergnonomic -Almost every other bottle makes a screeching noise when opened Good things take time. Maahi, Kirti and Gaurav spent months, talking to over 500+ individuals, developing over 30+ prototypes and making countless visits to our artisans to finally lead to the birth of the ‘P-TAL copper bottle’ which is: -Made of 100% pure copper and is easy to clean -Easy to grip and hold, to prevent the chances of falling and denting -Leakproof and screech proof wooden cap which makes it both functional and aesthetic There were many problems that came along the way but no problem was bigger than the problem that we wanted to solve for our customers. The journey was difficult, but the destination turned out to be extremely beautiful: A P-TAL copper bottle which is not just another bottle!

This will be one of the most special pictures of my life so far. Meeting Chef Vikas Khanna was a desire, but seeing his love for P-TAL (Punjabi Thathera Art Legacy) felt like a dream come true moment! The moment he saw the P-TAL masala box, he kissed it! It seemed like as if it was his way of thanking the artisans who handcrafted it with so much love for him. They do share a special bond, since the Michelin star chef Vikas Khanna hails from Amritsar only! If you like him by watching his work, you’ll love it by meeting him! He is extremely kind, grounded and passionate about what he does. His restaurant, Bungalow in New York speaks of his passion and love for food! Getting a reservation there is even tougher than winning a lottery, it has turned out to be the No. 1 place to eat in New York City! Excited to unfold something that we are cooking together :) Just like Chef Vikas, our aim is to make the people in the US fall in love and appreciate not just our Indian food, but Indian traditional utensils too!

I booked a flight to New York when we received this message from one of our customers in the US: “Your utensils are a way for us to experience India!” Our reply: “You are our way to help our artisan-made products experience America :)” We have always received great love and appreciation from our customers based in the US, not just from Indians but also the non-Indian communities there. They seem like a family that we have never met yet, but who are always there for us. It’s finally time to meet this family of ours and we cannot hold our excitement. I will be in the East Coast from 25th July to 11th August 2024 and would love to meet our P-TAL Parivaar and many more folks! Nothing is more satisfying for us than to take the legacy and culture of our Thatheras (artisans) to the world. If you’re anywhere around New York/New Jersey or nearby regions, do let me know in the comments, would love to catch up over a cup of chai/coffee and learn from you on how we can take our Indian craft global! Our mission at P-TAL (Punjabi Thathera Art Legacy) is simple, people outside India have started loving Indian food, we hope they get to cook and taste them in traditional Indian utensils as well!
