Problem : I am facing a problem of water separation in my water based primers. I use DM water and still face this problem. 😞Please check the video clip and suggest a solution. Solution : This kind of problem is very common. The dosage of extenders/fillers in such paints is about 50%. These fillers if not wetted properly fail to hold water and tend to settle down causing separation. The regular wetting agents used in paints are meant for pigments and not fillers. Use a wetting agent that is specially designed to wet the wide range of fillers. This will ensure that the fillers will be properly dispersed and stay in the system.

PROBLEMS: There is a loss of shade strength in my water based paints as the paint film dries. Solution: Water based paints have a significant amount of extenders. Extenders have very insignificant hiding power in wet state. But in dry film they have a significant hiding capacity. Hence the shade is weaker in dry film than wet film. So you will need to set your wet shade in such a manner that after drying the desired shade is developed.
