In our expert series, Dr. Kapil Goyal, Consultant, Medical Oncology at RGCIRC, highlights the significance of understanding the genetic link in cancers. Dr. Goyal explains that many cancers can run in families, with up to 8-10% being genetically related. If there is a history of cancer in a family, whether in parents, siblings, or cousins, there may be an increased risk for others in the family. This includes cancers like breast and ovarian cancer, which can sometimes appear in multiple family members across generations.
