A company recruiter - Working with recruitment agencies is a pain! An agency recruiter - Working with a company recruiter is a bigger pain. This is a never-ending debate! Status management of candidates referred by agencies is painful, messy, chaotic, frustrating, sloppy, unfair, ... For everyone. Almost always, the agency recruiter has to keep asking for status updates to the recruiter (on call, on WhatsApp, or on email). A company recruiter, along with a hundred other things that they do, now has to create another spreadsheet for every agency that they work with. Oh and also manage that status on their "Master" spreadsheet or their ATS for internal stakeholders. Okay, that seems doable you say? What happens when you change the status in your master spreadsheet? Yes, you go ahead and find that agency spreadsheet and update the status there too, OR wait till the agency recruiter starts pinging you on updates. Still not convinced? How do you handle duplication across hundreds of spreadsheets, careers page applications, email, and WhatsApp? Still not convinced? How do you measure time spent in each stage? Is the agency a part of that analytics? Still not convinced? You're your own enemy. You are generating work for you that isn't yours to do. I said it. Yeah, some good companies are using incumbent ATSes that are supposed to build this experience. Have you ever seen the agency experience there? All they get to see is the list of applications, date of application, and a basic status. This is called bookkeeping. Might as well do it on spreadsheets.
