A few months ago, we had an opportunity to record our conversation with Mr. Hukum Singh Uniyal, who served the Dept. of Education, Uttarakhand as a teacher. Mr Uniyal is a founder of the school ‘Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Boys School’ in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. It is a residential school which houses about 60 boys, out of whom about 50 are from Uttarakhand and others from Nepal, UP & Bihar. Children are aged 4 – 14 years. Mori is a distant block (250 kms from the school) in Uttarkashi district of Uttarakhand and about 30 children are from there. All other children are from different villages and blocks of Tehri Garhwal, Rudra Prayag, Pauri Garhwal, Almora and Chamoli districts as well as Chakrata block of Dehradun in Uttarakhand (distance from the school between 270 – 350 kms). By remote we mean places having difficult terrain, almost inapproachable by road, where everyday life in general is tough. They require adequately planned logistical arrangements. Mr Uniyal’s contributions while in service, in the field of education of children, particularly in the Himalayan region were notable and recognized by national awards; a person of great stature and repute, with sound knowledge of the demography, region, aptitude and culture. The school houses children who are mostly orphans, either have single parents, abandoned or children with disabilities. This is our first ever personal note about attempting to engage with children. We are not writing about ‘unprivileged’ households. Rather, we are writing about children who belong to families which could not fend for themselves. Please note: During the course of our work, particularly relief work, we limit photography and its publication only to materials, team administration and operations and avoid any form of publicity of human condition or identification of persons. We wish great success to Mr Uniyal on this Teachers’ Day and our warm wishes to children in the school. #teachersday #education #uttarakhand

We were at the Forest Survey of India, Dehradun, India for our work presentation. It was a thrilling experience to exchange views and insights with the staff members. We have proposed for a very diverse form of collaboration with the institution.

To search and locate diverse forms of traditional games, both structured and unstructured in nature, and conduct a scientific study through observational and collaborative tools. At the heart of it is a child’s innate capacity to invent, explore, create, build and reconstruct the physical and metaphysical world. Our team member involves school going children from ‘Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Boys School’ in Mussorrie, Uttarakhand. for the same. We are raising awareness, support and resources for this particular school. Thank you +91-9760966102 www.saahasfoundation.com

There's a specific itinerary of tasks we are involved with the school children of 'Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose Boys School' in Mussoorie, Uttarakhand. These include setting up a life skills lab, basic IT infrastructure and peripheral as well as networking resources, sports equipment, design and setting up of a purposeful library, and human resources, etc. However, the most urgent of all were the pressing need to have a medical examination of all children in the school alongside a scheduled disability assessment. The good news is that much of it is operationally carved out. We would be setting up a camp in the school in October this year involving govt. healthcare systems and senior medical practitioners. The whole idea is to be able to facilitate a full fledged examination which would eventually lead to a significant amount of treatment and integration with public healthcare facilities. We seek your support on various fronts to raise awareness as well as resources for the school. #uttarakhand #healthcare #disability #education #school #children #sports #medical #mussorie #access
