🌎 October 16 is the World Food Day, and this year's theme is "Right to Food for a Better Life and a Better Future". 🌾 Despite producing enough food to feed everyone on Earth, an alarming 733 million people still go hungry every day. This is a stark reminder that the right to food is a fundamental human right that remains out of reach for far too many. ❗ Inequality is at the heart of this crisis. In low-income countries, 71.5% of people cannot afford a healthy diet, compared to just 6.3% in high-income countries. This disparity is a testament to the broken food system that prioritizes profit over people. The consequences of food insecurity are far-reaching and disproportionately affect children, women, and marginalized communities of the global South. At Samavit, we're committed to working towards a more equitable and sustainable food system. Our efforts focus on promoting sustainable agriculture and empowering low-income communities. 🤝 Together, we can make a difference. By raising awareness, supporting local initiatives, and demanding action from policymakers, we can help ensure that everyone has the right to food for a better life and a better future. #WorldFoodDay #RightToFood #FoodSecurity #SustainableAgriculture #ClimateAction #CommunityEmpowerment

Samavit, in partnership with Solidaridad Asia, has successfully conducted a Training of Trainers (ToT) workshop on financial and digital literacy for women farmers in Jamnagar and Dwarka, Gujarat. To improve financial knowledge, attitude and behaviour of women farmers, we equipped a team of field mentors with the necessary skills to empower their communities. These trainers will now transform the way women farmers perceive and manage their personal finances. The ToT focused on topics such as budgeting, financial planning, existing loan products, effective savings, investment strategies, digital financial products, and fraud prevention. By adopting the #OECD definition of financial literacy and leveraging adult learning principles, such as experiential learning, collaborative discussions, and practical exercises, we conducted an engaging and impactful workshop. This approach fostered critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and knowledge application among participants. We are grateful to Solidaridad Regional Expertise Centre (SREC) for conceptualizing and leading this initiative and to Nayara Energy for their support in making it a success. Together, we are building a stronger financial future for women in agriculture. #FinancialLiteracy #WomenEmpowerment #agriculture #OECD #DigitalLiteracy #Jamnagar #AdultLearning #WomenFarmers #SustainableFarming #CommunityDevelopment #WomenInAgriculture #FinancialInclusion #training #CapacityBuilding Sachin Kumar ATUL KASHYAP Arjun Phillips Sweta Chakraborty Monika Khanna

India is a major agricultural producer, occupying 42% of the country's workforce and contributing around 17.7% to the Gross Value Added (GVA) of the country. With an arable area of 159 million hectares, the agriculture sector in India holds immense untapped potential. The sector holds the special attention of the government as many people are directly and indirectly engaged in this sector for their livelihood. On July 23, 2024, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman announced the budget for the current financial year. The budget prioritizes nine areas, with "Productivity and resilience in agriculture" being a key focus for the government. The allocation for the agriculture and allied sector has been increased to Rs 1.52 lakh crore, which is Rs 27 thousand crore more than the allocation for the previous financial year (FY 2023-24, budget Rs 1.25 lakh crore). Additionally, the finance minister made several announcements outlining policy frameworks for the agriculture sector shortly. Here are the key takeaways for the agriculture and allied sectors: 1)   Climate resilience and high productivity- Rs 1.52 lakh crore have been allocated by the central government for the development of agriculture and allied sectors in this financial year. During the last financial year, the budget of the agriculture sector was Rs 1.25 lakh crore. 2)   Promoting Natural Farming- One crore farmers will be initiated into natural farming, The government will support them in matters of certification and branding through scientific institutions and gram panchayats. Additionally, to promote natural farming,10 thousand bio-input resources will be established so that farmers will have access to bio inputs for agriculture. 3)   Digital Public Infrastructure- The government proposes to promote digital public infrastructure for agriculture in partnership with states. The details of six crore farmers and their lands will be entered into registries over the next three years. Additionally, the government is planning to conduct a digital crop survey in 400 districts during the current Kharif season. This will help to establish a clear picture of crops being sown across all the farmlands in the country during the different agricultural seasons. 4)   Promotion of Vegetable and Fruit Clusters- Large-scale vegetable clusters will be developed closer to major consumption centers to increase the supply of fruits and vegetables in major consumption areas. The government will promote Farmer-producer organizations (FPOs), cooperatives, and start-ups will be promoted for participating in vegetable supply chains, including collection, storage, and marketing. 5)   Atma Nirbharta in Pulses and Oil Seeds- The government plans to achieve Atma Nirbharta by producing pulses and oil seed crops. Few crops have been identified for this purpose such as mustard, groundnut, sesame, soybean, and sunflower. #budget2024 #agriculture #agribusiness #ruraldevelopment #farmerproducerorganizations

🌍World Environment Day 2024: Restoring Earth's Future         This year’s World Environment Day theme focuses on land restoration, desertification, and drought resilience under the slogan- “Our land. Our future. We are #GenerationRestoration.” Why this focus? Because restoring our land can reverse the tide of degradation, drought, and desertification, ensuring a more sustainable future for all. Do you know? 💡Every dollar invested in restoration can yield up to $30 in ecosystem services, benefiting livelihoods and biodiversity. 💡Restoring just 15 % of land and halting further conversion could avoid up to 60% of expected species extinctions.” Let’s take action to fulfil our promise to restore one billion hectares of land and build a greener, more resilient planet. Here’s how you can contribute: 🔸 Adopt sustainable farming techniques and plant native vegetation. 🔸Cut food waste to conserve water and reduce emissions. 🔸Educate youth on land restoration.                   Let’s pledge with Samavit this Environment Day to be a part of #GenerationRestoration! And make peace with the land and build a resilient planet together. 🌎💚  #Sustainability #ClimateAction #WorldEnvironmentDay
