A Creative Journey: Hasith Goli Shares Insights on Filmmaking and Tollywood On 22nd October 2024, the Alumni Relations Division of BITS Pilani, Hyderabad Campus, hosted an interactive session, A Dream of Movies: BITS to Tollywood, featuring filmmaker Hasith Goli (Pilani, '09). Hasith made his directorial debut with Raja Raja Chora (2021), a major hit in the Telugu film industry. His recent film, Swag (2024), explores gender equality beyond binaries through a unique, non-linear narrative, earning significant critical acclaim. During the session, Hasith shared his journey from being a BITSian to working with corporates like MapmyIndia and eventually stepping into the Telugu film industry as an assistant director before directing his first film. Students and film enthusiasts asked him about the creative aspects of his films, the production process, and other filmmaking nuances. The discussion delved into various stages of film production in Tollywood, from pitching ideas to producers, conducting recce (pre-filming site visits), making casting decisions, and marketing films. On October 19, 2024, we proudly welcomed back Ravula Sirish Kumar , an alumnus from the 1982-87 Batch and a successful serial entrepreneur. His incredible journey, from a 4.53 GPA to becoming a CEO and global leader, inspired students deeply. From Campus to CEO: A Story of Risk and Reward Sirish’s path proves that marks don’t define success. Joining BITS Pilani in 1982 for M.Sc. in Chemistry, he started with a low CGPA but turned things around through perseverance, eventually landing a job at BPCL via campus placement. However, Sirish felt unfulfilled in production roles and took a bold risk—leaving his public-sector job to pursue management studies. His career spanned roles in ITC, Bayer, and Indian pharma firms like Sumitra Pharma, NATCO, and Piramal, gaining diverse experiences in marketing and leadership. In 2003, he made his biggest leap, co-founding RA Chem Pharma. From 50 employees to 1,000+, the company expanded into formulations, clinical trials, and over 70 global markets before exiting in 2020. He has since ventured into IT and Esports—uncharted territories, yet another reflection of his adaptability and entrepreneurial spirit.
