    Onions at ₹35: Now That’s a Price Worth Slicing For! The Open Network For Digital Commerce (ONDC) has launched a new initiative to sell onions at a reduced price of ₹35 per kg in the Delhi NCR region. This effort, in collaboration with the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India (NCCF) and Otipy, aims to make essential food items more affordable for consumers. Residents can purchase these onions through various apps supported by the ONDC network, including Otipy, Paytm, and Mystore. Following the launch in Delhi NCR, the program is set to expand to other cities, with Mumbai next in line.This initiative comes as onion prices have been rising, with retail rates in Delhi dropping from ₹60 to ₹55 per kg and in Chennai from ₹65 to ₹58 per kg. The government has also increased its supply of subsidized onions through mobile vans and outlets operated by National Cooperative Consumers' Federation Of India Limited (NCCF) and NAFED India.     Must DMart Evolve With The Times? Dmart is facing some challenges in the evolving retail landscape, particularly with the rise of q commerce. Founded in 2002 by Radhakishan Damani, DMart has built a strong presence with over 200 stores across India, known for its everyday low prices and efficient supply chain. However, recent reports show the company grappling with declining profits and reduced sales in discretionary categories, especially apparel, where competitors offer more appealing designs and shopping experiences. The rise of Q-commerce platforms like JioMart Digital and Blinkit has put pressure on DMart's growth. The company's growth rate dropped to 5.5% in Q2FY25 from 9.1% in the previous quarter, indicating slower revenue generation from existing stores. DMart's online platform, DMart Ready, has also seen a slowdown, with year-on-year growth falling to 21% in H1FY25 compared to 32% in FY24, suggesting it's struggling to keep pace with established e-commerce players.
