#InternationalDayForTheEradicationOfPoverty2024: "End poverty in all its forms everywhere" constitutes Sustainable Development Goal 1 of the United Nations. 👨🌾 👩🌾 As an organization committed to sustainable development, Solidaridad also supports farmers' livelihoods and helps them overcome poverty in a variety of ways that improve access to markets and help them bargain for better and fairer prices: from setting up collectives, to promoting entrepreneurship, to training farmers on alternative sources of income. ✅ – In 2023, as a result of Solidaridad's efforts in Asia, 521,109 farmers reported an increase in their income. – In the same year, Solidaridad Asia supported 469 entrepreneurs to build a financially viable business model. – 3,341 beneficiaries gained additional employment as a result of our support. 🎯 On the International Day for the Eradication of Poverty, we share stories of farmers who have crafted their own stories of success: 🌱 After years of struggle, small tea grower Girish Chutia set up his own tea shop in Assam, becoming an entrepreneur in the process. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gwpkyCDZ 🌴 💧 Hartati Rufiah, a palm oil smallholder in Indonesia, independently financed her son's education abroad. 👉 https://lnkd.in/gaX_vnxJ 💦 🌾 In Bangladesh, the revival and proper management of watersheds, along with training on regenerative agriculture, has enabled thousands of farmers such as Taslima Begum thrive and earn sustainable livelihoods. 👉https://lnkd.in/gR92jUTe Solidaridad Network | Solidaridad Indonesia | Shatadru Chattopadhayay | Yeni Fitriyanti | Selim Reza Hasan #InternationalDayOfTheEradicationOfPoverty #PovertyEradication #LivelihoodEmpowerment #SDG1 #PathwaysToProsperity

Trichoderma, a fungus, acts as a biological agent preventing the spread of multiple diseases in oil palm trees because of its anti-pathological properties. It can be procured from the soil around bamboo trees, and grown using rice as a medium. Trichoderma can be applied both as a solid and liquid fertilizer, acting as a substitute for synthetic chemical fertilizers. 🌴 💧 Recently, the Solidaridad team in Indonesia introduced this useful fungus to farmers at a farmers' field school in East Kalimantan, Indonesia, which saw participants from the villages of Krayan Bahagia and Krayan Makmur Villages in Paser district. In the session, the villagers were briefed on the many benefits of trichoderma and how to breed and cultivate it at home (using kitchen waste, rice-washed water and brown sugar solution). 👩🌾 👨🌾 Solidaridad Indonesia | Yeni Fitriyanti | Suksma Ratri #SustainablePalmOil #PathwaysToProsperity #RegenerativeAgriculture

Apiculture (beekeeping) is an employment-generating, long-term development activity. It is an excellent agro-based subsidiary enterprise that can be both the main and a supplementary source of income for rural farmers. 🐝 🍯 With the aim to promote apiculture as an alternative source of livelihood among women, Solidaridad, supported by Bridgestone India, conducted a two-day training programme on apiculture for a local women farmers' group. The session, organized under Unnati, the sustainable natural rubber initiative, saw the participation of 40 farmers, including 20 women. The event, held from 9 October, was attended and inaugurated by K.P. Saleenamma (Principle Agricultural Officer, Idukki), in Muttom, Idukki district, Kerala. 👩🌾 👨🌾 Sreerag PP | Monika Khanna #Apiculture #SustainableLivelihoods #WomenInAgriculture

Globally, women constitute 37 per cent of the agricultural labor force. However, less than 15 per cent of the 500 million farmers are women, mostly because farmers are largely defined based on landholdings. Thus, despite producing up to 80 per cent of food in developing countries, less than one in five landholders worldwide is a woman. ❌ ✍ In the policy paper, "Rightfully HERS" - Inclusion of Women in Formal Agriculture Supply Chains, Neha ., Md Abdul Muyeed, PhD, and Nitin Rao discuss the far-reaching effects of the systematic exclusion of women from the agricultural sector. To counter these adverse effects, the paper makes the following recommendations to G20 countries: – Redefine who a farmer is, without linking it solely to land ownership – Establish a quota for women in public and private procurement systems – Create a G20 fund for the inclusion of women in the market system – Allocate 20 per cent of the CSR funds of companies for the inclusion of women in supply chains – Establish a ‘Research and Learning Center for Agriculture Products and Services for Women Farmers’ 👩🌾 ✔️ 👉 Read more about the brief and its recommendations here: https://lnkd.in/gFQWVXbm G20 Brasil 2024 | Solidaridad Network | Solidaridad Asia | International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) | Andre de Freitas | Shatadru Chattopadhayay #G20 #WomenInAgriculture #GenderInclusivity #FeminizationOfTheSupplyChain
