Alternative choice of livelihood for sustainable and healthy mass
About us
The Saurashtra region in Gujarat, specifically Amreli District, faces the challenge of being a drought-prone area with minimal rainfall. Despite the majority of the community being engaged in farming, the scarcity of water prevents agricultural activities. Consequently, individuals, particularly those from lower-income groups, agricultural labourers, families below the poverty line, and marginal farmers, find themselves compelled to migrate to distant areas in search of livelihood opportunities. Recognizing this scenario, SSKK was established in 1980 by a group of energetic, committed volunteers. The aim was to address the prevalent challenges by offering alternative livelihood options, thereby mitigating the need for people to migrate. Shiksha ane Samaj Kalyan Kendra have gained recognition within their operational area. The organization has achieved success by actively contributing to society through various initiatives in health, education, and women empowerment. The community acknowledges the positive impact of the organization's activities and the assistance provided. We strive to offer the best livelihood opportunities through effective programs, although sometimes we encounter challenges that require expert intervention. Despite these hurdles, our ongoing activities are managed carefully, and the gained experience turns into expertise. Learning from the exposure of other organizations brings in new ideas, strengthening our team's enthusiasm and enhancing the organization's capabilities. We prioritize transparency in our programs, administration, and accounts, creating a new approach. By engaging in the social audit process for social responsibility, we demonstrate our commitment to closing gaps and rectifying implementation errors. The organization has maintained its credibility, adhering to the norms of Credibility Alliance and actively participating in the accreditation process.

They also explored the farmers' dedicated efforts to adopt organic farming practices, such as utilizing natural fertilizers and sustainable methods. A key focus of the discussion was the Better Cotton program, which has brought significant benefits to farmers through organic cotton cultivation. The positive impacts of this program are evident in both crop quality and infrastructure development within the community. This visit provided students with a unique opportunity to witness first-hand the transformative changes in the lives of farmers. These changes are fostering the adoption of improved farming practices and promoting advocacy for more sustainable agriculture in the future. 🌱 #IRMAVisits #SustainableAgriculture #OrganicFarming #NagdiyaVillage #sskkamreli

🌱 Empowering Farm Workers for a Better Tomorrow 🌱 Today, we gathered with farm laborers working on cotton fields under the Better Cotton Program, delivering a crucial training session on Decent Work practices. 💪 Ensuring fair wages, safe working conditions, and respect for labor rights is essential for creating a sustainable and just agricultural system. Through these sessions, we aim to improve the livelihoods of those who are at the heart of sustainable cotton farming. Together, we’re not just growing cotton; we’re cultivating equity, dignity, and opportunity for all workers in the supply chain. 🌍🧑🌾👩🌾 - Priyanshi, Parita and Surbhi. #BetterCotton #DecentWork #SustainableFarming #FarmersFirst #Empowerment #CottonWithCare #SustainableAgriculture #RuralDevelopment

This past month, we had the pleasure of witnessing the graduation of two dynamic cohorts from our Leadership for Growth program in Kenya and India. But this is not just a moment to mark the completion of a 6-month journey—it is about celebrating the incredible community built. At the heart of this program is the belief that leadership is not a solo endeavor. The bonds formed among participants create a network of like-minded changemakers that will continue to thrive long after the program concludes. These leaders, drawn from diverse sectors and regions, have spent months learning, connecting, sharing, and supporting one another. Our wish for them is that they continue to innovate and lead with resilience. Congratulations to all our graduates from Kenya and India! May your leadership journeys be enriched by the community you have built, and may your impact continue to ripple outward.
