Shri Arvind Kumar, Director General, STPI, while speaking in the panel discussion during the session on "Innovation Centers: Accelerating Tamil Nadu's Tech Startup Growth" at Umagine TN 2025, highlighted the following points: ▶️ The Govt. of India is creating incubation spaces for startups with significant infrastructure already in place. ▶️ Over 1.4 lakh startups are registered with DPIIT, and approx. 50% of startups are emerging from Tier-II & Tier-III cities, highlighting a shift beyond metros. ▶️ In the realm of women entrepreneurship, around 40% of leadership roles—comprising founders or co-founders—are being led by women, highlighting a transformative shift in mindset and gender inclusivity within the startup ecosystem. ▶️ While funding is not a constraint, startups now a days struggle with market access and direct B2C or corporate engagement. Shri Kumar called on corporates and PSUs to support startups by providing problem statements and adopting their solutions to enhance growth and morale of startups. Shri Kumar also highlighted about Tamil Nadu’s strong talent pool, its numerous GCCs and fintech firms, and its potential to become the fintech capital of India—and possibly the world—driven by its growing infrastructure and innovation-friendly ecosystem.
