We are elated to share that SunSource Energy has been awarded the prestigious 'Solar Power Project of the Year - India' award at the Asian Power Awards 2024 in a ceremony held in Singapore, for the clean energy transition project in Lakshadweep, constructed for Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI). Due to its unique location, Lakshadweep relied on diesel-based power for its electricity needs. The project with a combined solar capacity of 1.7 MW and a 1.4 MWh Battery Energy Storage System contributes to the island's goal of becoming self-sufficient. Over its lifetime, this project will offset up to 190 lakh litres of diesel while saving approximately INR 250 crores to the island community. To stay on track for the 1.5°C climate goal, India needs to boost its wind and solar energy generation five-fold by 2030, according to a joint report by Climate Analytics and the New Climate Institute. While India has made impressive strides in renewables, the country must ramp up efforts to meet over 600 GW of wind and solar capacity in the next 6 years to reduce reliance on coal and meet its growing energy demands. This is not just India’s challenge. Across 11 countries—responsible for over 70% of current wind and solar power—renewable energy must grow five times by 2030 and eight times by 2035 to keep us on the #Below2°C path.  India’s progress is commendable, but the road ahead demands faster action.
