Day 3: Where Disaster Risk Management Meets Design for Sustainability
Today marked an exhilarating third day of our training program, "Disaster Risk Management meets Design for Sustainability through Games and Gamification," sponsored by the National Institute of Disaster Management. The energy in the room was palpable as participants from SDMAs, DDMAs, ASDMA, academia, and the design world came together to explore innovative approaches to disaster preparedness.
Unleashing Creativity
It was truly amazing to witness the inner child emerge from each participant as they dove into the world of game design. The workshop atmosphere was electric with creativity and enthusiasm, proving that learning about serious topics can indeed be fun and engaging.
Games That Teach
In just 6-8 hours, our talented participants developed an impressive array of games that address critical disaster scenarios:
- Earthquake preparedness
- Heat wave survival strategies
- Multi-hazard scenario management
These games not only entertain but also educate, offering valuable lessons on how to prepare for and respond to various disaster situations.
A Blissful Learning Experience
The blending of serious disaster management principles with the playful approach of game design created a unique and blissful learning environment. Participants were fully engaged, laughing and strategizing as they absorbed crucial information about disaster risk reduction.
Diverse Perspectives, Unified Goal
The diversity of our participants – from disaster management authorities to academics and designers – brought a rich tapestry of perspectives to the workshop. This interdisciplinary approach fostered innovative thinking and collaborative problem-solving, essential skills in both disaster management and sustainable design.
As we reflect on today's achievements, it's clear that this workshop is not just about learning – it's about transforming how we approach disaster preparedness and sustainability. By tapping into our playful nature, we're discovering powerful new ways to build resilience in our communities.
Stay tuned for more updates as we continue this exciting journey of discovery and innovation!
