Maternal and Newborn Survival Initiative (MANSI+) by #TataSteelFoundation, is our effort to improve the health of mothers and children. Under this initiative, we train community health workers (locally called Sahiyyas in Jharkhand) in low-cost, home-based practices to care for the mother and her child. We also equip them with adequate resources for the same, and then monitor the progress of their intervention. Through the unique real-time digital app – Operation Sunshine – that allows for better tracking, we have now reached farther regions, and have been able to improve the effectiveness of the entire project. Today, what began as a simple initiative has evolved into the country’s largest consolidated maternal, neonatal, and infant health programme with MANSI+. This programme allows us to support girls and women through various stages of their lives, from childhood to motherhood. The programme includes nutritional, sociological and institutional healthcare to fight all the factors that contribute to an increase in mortality. We are bridging the gap between access and opportunities through TCS BridgeIT - a digital literacy and business skilling program. It facilitates youth, living in rural India, to become financially independent entrepreneurs and agents of social integration, pivotal to their communities. Through this program, we provide lessons in computers and software, how to run a business, how to manage finances, how to maintain and increase customer base, and much more. Once trained and ready, these young individuals offer digital services, eliminating the need for community members to travel long distances for basic services like operating their bank account, linking their Aadhaar, filling online forms, registering for exams, availing government schemes and more. Equipped with the right knowledge and resources, these youth also help train and educate others, encouraging more individuals to start their own businesses and become financially empowered. With the transformative powers of the TCS BridgeIT program, we have been helping create a self-sustaining digital ecosystem in rural areas, impacting over 1.3 million lives across 10 states.
