Success Story of Balaji Wafers!! Balaji Wafers began in 1972 with Chandubhai Virani and his brothers working in a cinema canteen, where they initially made masala sandwiches. Facing supply issues, Chandubhai saw an opportunity in producing wafers, so he invested ₹10,000 to start a small chip-making venture at home. His wafers quickly gained popularity, leading the cinema owner to partner with him, and soon they were distributing to 30 merchants. By 1984, the brand was named Balaji, inspired by a nearby Hanuman temple, marking the start of their snack empire. They were threatened by the major competitors present in the potato chips market but they stayed adamant on their path and today with continued success its market share of local potato and vegetable chips from 9.5% in 2008 to 13.7% in 2012. With a 71% market share, Balaji also rules the Western market. It holds a 90% share in Gujarat, its home state. Recently, the company set up a new manufacturing unit in Belagavi, Karnataka, spread over 20 acres of land. This new facility is expected to significantly boost their production. Key lessons from Balaji Wafers’ growth: ◼️ Importance of continuous innovation ◼️ Understanding the target audience ◼️ Aligning your products with customer preferences ◼️ Ensuring a unique market presence ◼️ Building strategic partnerships ◼️ Focusing on customer satisfaction Balaji Wafers is a story of believing in oneself and aiming for the higher goals with dedication and perseverance. Elevate your Diwali with our healthy initiative!! 🎇 Let's discover how the mithai industry is modernizing packaging and hygiene standards, combining tradition with innovation—featuring eco-friendly designs and non-human touch technology. This Diwali, Mithai and Namkeen Times (FSNM) started an initiative where they are launching a video focusing on the importance of eco-friendly packaging and sustainability where the peers from our food industry leaders give their viewpoint on hygiene, nutrition, and packaging in the sweets industry. I would like to thank Firoz H Naqvi, Director, FSNM and Mr. Virender Jain, President, FSNM (Federation of Snacks and Namkeen Manufacturers) for taking this initiative and creating awareness about the upcoming technology trends in the industry. The video emphasises, how these days the traditional sweets are made at the state-of-the art facilities and utmost attention is paid to the packaging and the designs. The food manufacturers are paying attention to the hygiene and quality of the product that is delivered to the end consumers. Hitesh Tripathi Haldiram Foods International Ltd Haldiram Snacks Pvt.Ltd. Through this merger, Bikaji aims to capture the QSR segment and mark its presence in the bakery and patisserie segment. Building Theobrama!! 🍰 🎂 👩🍳 From being a chef to building a ₹3,500 Crore Bakery Chain: the journey of of Kainaz Messman, Founder of THEOBROMA FOODS PRIVATE LIMITED, wasn't a piece of cake. The journey was full of up and down. As Kainaz started her career as a pastry chef at Oberoi Udaivilas. A devastating back injury forced her to quit her career in 2003. She teamed up with her sister Tina to fill a gap in India’s food market—quality desserts weren’t accessible as during that time the European -style pastries and good brownies were luxuries, only available in five-star hotels. She took a Rs 1.5 crore loan from their father and converted their grandmother’s kitchen into a bakery. They started a tiny shop in Colaba, Mumbai, with barely enough space to move. They had humble beginnings with no fancy kitchen—the corridor was their cooling room for chocolates! Challenges: 10 years as a one-store operation—not due to lack of demand, but lack of funds. In 2014, they secured a Rs 5 crore loan to expand. The Indian bakery market wasn’t ready for premium artisanal desserts—skepticism everywhere. In 2013, they hired CEO Cyrus Shroff, who streamlined operations. With processes in place and funding secured, they expanded outside Mumbai in 2017, opening their first store in Delhi. Today, Theobroma is worth ₹3,500 crore, with 225 outlets across India, from one tiny kitchen to a dessert empire. At present, they had 1,200 employees—far from the days of just Kainaz, Tina, and one assistant. To engage customers, they allowed customers to taste the brownies and then select their piece. Apart from this, the heavenly bakery smell acted as catalyst in attracting customers. Through packaging, they made the feel of their product look premium. While on the online channel, they engaged customers through website and international clients. 🎯 Theobroma didn’t just build a bakery—they changed the way India thinks about dessert, turning a luxury into an everyday treat. Kainaz and Tina took a broken dream, added grit, and built an empire that reshaped an entire industry. 🚀 Hitesh Tripathi #founders #storytelling #startup #dreambig #bakery #bakeryindustry #retailbakerychain #entrepreneurship
