Fascinating insights from strong leaders of places that have inspired us this year 🌟 #CNPGlobal24 #placebranding Rossana Dresdner Cid
London & Partners’ Laura Citron OBE joined us at #CNPGlobal24 to share five instances where they challenged their thinking and re-developed their approach. For example, following the Brexit vote, the team knew they needed to change the way they operated to keep London top of mind. In particular, they shifted to measuring the additional economic growth that they bought to the city, that wouldn’t have happened if they hadn’t intervened. While it made targets much tougher, it put the focus on the value-add, and ensured they knew that their metrics were bullet proof to defend investment into their organisation. Laura wrapped up by sharing five key learnings from their journey over the past decade: 💡 Measure the difference that you’re really making - and don’t be afraid to be honest about where you’re making difference and where you’re not. It’s better to have a small number that’s real, rather than a big number that’s not. 💡 Think about scale in market and where you can deliver meaningful impact 💡 True partnership takes effort, compromise, and humility – it can be hard to give up control, but it can deliver huge benefits. 💡 Know when a brand is ready to retire 💡 Keep trying new things. Don’t be afraid to do something different. Following Laura’s presentation, we heard from Kaitlin Eskelson, MPA, Visit Salt Lake, Rossana Dresdner Cid, Marca Chile, and Asbjørn Overgaard, Copenhagen Capacity, to understand how place leaders are securing themselves as the top table for decision-making. There was lots to learn from the conversation that spanned stakeholder management, media relations, data, and more, but here are just a few of the highlights: 💡 Be action orientated. Focus on data that is succinct and provides a path forwards. 💡 Understand what your stakeholders’ priorities are and invest in research that helps you demonstrate impact in a way that is meaningful to your partners. 💡 Collaboration requires a new way of working, but it unlocks new budgets, creativity, and energy to drive your strategy 💡 Create your seat at the table. There's no substitute for having a body in the room where the decision are being made. 💡 At the end of the day, stakeholder management is a people business. It's the human interaction that makes those relationships thrive - but don't afraid to be a resource for them. It's hugely valuable to be the organisation that partners come to for data or support with media relations. https://lnkd.in/d8S2JKZ #nationbranding #citybranding #placebranding

This is a well-deserved recognition for a person who has shown the power of place branding in the most difficult circumstances. Congratulations, Maria Lypiatska. To all our partners and friends participating in the City Nation Place forum in London today, we wish you inspiring sessions and rewarding conversations! #CNPGlobal24 #placebranding
Over the past ten years, the City Nation Place team has recognised that great place brand leaders have to develop a multiple set of skills – creativity, bravery, patience, diplomacy, and determination, amongst others – which is why we’re delighted to announce that Maria Lypiatska, BRAND UKRAINE, is the first winner of our City Nation Place Leadership Award. “In times of crisis, all you have left is your values. They are the foundation on which we built our national identity. In the face of war, conflict, and multiple crisis, values-driven nation branding is a compass or guiding light to help navigate this uncertainty,” Maria shared as she collected the award. Here’s what our #CNPAwards judges had to say… Maria Lypiatska has exemplified a place-led vision through her leadership of Brand Ukraine, an organisation she founded just two weeks before the full-scale Russian invasion. Despite the challenges of leading in a time of war, her vision and strategic direction have delivered impactful, nation-wide and international initiatives aimed at shaping Ukraine’s positive global image. Her vision for Ukraine transcends the narrative of war. Focusing on the country’s strengths – its people, culture, innovation, and natural beauty – Maria’s leadership has demonstrated innovative and clever marketing thinking that every place can learn from and ensured that her country is admired, respected and supported by people and governments around the world.
