While the vast majority of our food today is produced by small-holder farmers, most media narratives are selling on the idea that industrial agriculture is the future. In an environment increasingly dominated by such narratives, we create short, philosophical films, beautiful photography and compelling narratives of places and people across the world who are continuing to conserve and adapt. Our primary focus is to look at ways to tell compelling, often untold stories, focus on solutions that have existed and thrived for hundreds of years. Media Production
The Source Image is a dynamic media production house focusing on stories around food and agriculture.
About us
The Source Image started as a self-funded venture more than 20 years ago and quickly evolved into a small, dynamic media production house focusing on stories around food and agriculture. In an environment increasingly dominated by industrial agriculture, we create short, philosophical films, beautiful photography and compelling narratives of people and communities across the world who produce most of the world’s food, while maintaining and conserving essential ecosystems and traditions. We are often reminded of the problems we face, but there are solutions out there - many millions of them - and their stories deserve to be told in a compassionate and compelling way.

𝐎𝐔𝐑 𝐀𝐏𝐏𝐑𝐎𝐀𝐂𝐇 𝐖𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐚 𝐬𝐦𝐚𝐥𝐥 𝐭𝐞𝐚𝐦 Being a small team helps us minimise the amount of disruption we bring to the communities we’ve come to film. All photography and videography is done by one person, with minimal kit (a steady cam, a drone and sound recording equipment) making the filming process as organic and less invasive as possible, while giving us legroom to adapt to changing circumstances. 𝐖𝐞 𝐤𝐧𝐨𝐰 𝐰𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐰𝐞 𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐚𝐥𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 We have decades of experience on the field and solid knowledge of issues related to food, agriculture and land. We understand the dynamics at play which means we can work with you to find the best way to tell each story. 𝐈𝐭’𝐬 𝐧𝐨𝐭 𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐮𝐬 Our films, photographs and narratives have very little to do with us: they are not just stories, they are someone’s life. Each time we visit a community, we try to leave behind digital and hard copies of some of the material we collected, for the communities to keep and use as they please.

𝗖𝗼𝗿𝗽𝗼𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀 𝗱𝗼𝗻’𝘁 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗱𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘀; 𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘆 𝘀𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝗲𝗺𝗼𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝘀. When we try to communicate a complex issue, we need to stimulate the viewers' emotional connection to the narrator and the story they are telling. Only then can we create a deep neural response that helps to nurture a bond with the subject and the matter. That is why we tell stories from the community - stories that don’t just present a series of problems and solutions embedded within a preset narrative. By respecting the community and the narrator in their telling of a story, we can connect people to each other and their issues. The Source Image is a small media company, established around 20 years ago, with the sole purpose of telling the stories of those who have been most affected by the negative impacts of industrialisation on land, agriculture, and food. 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘀𝗵𝗼𝗿𝘁 𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗼 𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗲𝘀 - We create short, philosophical films and videos ranging from 10 seconds to 10 minutes designed to tell impactful stories, engage audiences, and change narratives. 𝗣𝗵𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗽𝗵𝘀 - We create beautiful, impactful, high resolution photographs as portraits or photo essays. When we are commissioned to make a film, we also cover the photography for use in editorial, campaigns and social media. 𝗘𝗱𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗮𝗹 - We develop, investigate, and write impact stories, articles and long features to be disseminated through your channels or pitched to the media using our images to add impact. 𝗧𝗿𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 - Besides our filmmaking courses that we run regularly through the year, we offer organisations ad hoc workshops on filmmaking, storytelling and digital content for their staff.
