Google-backed APAC Sustainability Seed Fund 2.0 has selected four Indian organizations—INREM Foundation, CEPT Research and Development Foundation (CRDF), Institute for Financial Management and Research (WELL Labs), and Gujarat Mahila Housing Sewa Trust (MHT)—among 14 other recipients across the Asia Pacific region. Supported by a $5 million grant from Google.org, the fund is managed by the Asian Venture Philanthropy Network (AVPN) and aims to foster AI-driven solutions addressing environmental and social challenges. INREM Foundation will develop AI-enabled digital solutions for community access to water contamination data, while CRDF will leverage machine learning and satellite imagery to protect lakes and enhance their carbon sink function. WELL Labs plans to create advanced models for village-level water security insights, and MHT will develop an AI-powered model to identify urban heat islands and propose community-focused solutions. 💧 This week, we were together with our ambassadors at the World Water Week! In collaboration with SIWI - Stockholm International Water Institute, the Water, Environment, Land and Livelihoods (WELL) Labs, Ragn-Sells AS, and the Environmental Defense Fund, we organized the 2nd session of the SIWI seminar series "Water for Ecosystem Security" on 26th August 2024. Why are the Water-Oriented Living Labs (WOLLs) so important?   💡 Our session explored the critical role of Water-Oriented Living Labs (WOLLs) in addressing global water challenges and especially that of water scarcity. 💡Speakers representing the WOLLs listed in the Atlas of WOLLs 2024 showcased the thematic and problem-solving approach of WOLLs, their territorial linkage, and the quintuple helix collaboration model. 💡A key discussion point was also the need for today’s wastewater treatment plants to evolve into the water resource plants of tomorrow.   🌍 WOLLs are essential in shaping a #WaterSmartSociety.
