Piece by Piece. Brand by Brand. Creator by Creator.
Last week, I had the privilege of attending the NYC premiere of Piece by Piece. This stunning new movie tells the story of Pharrell Williams’ life through the LEGO Group animation—and it's a breakthrough example of what happens when Hollywood, brands, and the creator economy come together in perfect harmony.
🎬 What makes this project so groundbreaking isn’t just the incredible story, but the way it was brought to life.
🎨 Creators: An army of independent creators—from Tongal, Pure Imagination Studios and Zebu Animation Studios —collaborated to craft this cinematic wonder. This convergence not only gave creators the opportunity to contribute to meaningful work, but it also allowed storytellers to connect with consumers in fresh, authentic ways. It’s a masterclass in creator-led storytelling.
💥 Brand: The director, Morgan Neville—known for the Mr. Rogers biopic, says he quickly realized that LEGO wasn’t just a gimmick to Pharrell: “It’s central to how his creative process works, this idea of constructing your own realities and having agency over your destiny.”
Pharrell’s life, full of #creativity and #innovation, mirrors the very essence of LEGO’s #functional and #emotional benefits. By bringing this story to the big stage, he gave the world a front-row seat to what both he and the LEGO brand are all about.
The movie doesn’t just celebrate Pharrell’s life—it’s a demonstration of how powerful the intersection of Hollywood, brands, and the creator economy can be. These spaces, which once operated independently, are now blurring thanks to evolving market forces, and Piece by Piece is a vibrant example of that shift in action.
The future of these industries is being built - piece by piece - and I can’t wait to see what takes shape!
