Still on the shelf of leading pharmacies, the Patanjali Coronil Kit retails for Rs 545, claiming defense against initial symptoms of viral exposure. The key benefits claim immunity improvement, prevention of respiratory symptoms, among others. However, the ayurveda pharma giant has toned down on its Guru’s earlier claim of being the ban of Covid in its FAQs. It mentions that Patanjali’s Coronil Kit is not a replacement of vaccinations or other public health measures. In its recent judgment on July 29, 2024, at the Delhi High Court, a bench led by Justice Anup Jairam Bhambhani has directed Ramdev to take down tweets claiming Coronil as complete cure for COVID within three days. The lawsuit against Ramdev and associates was filed by various doctors associations in 2021, including Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Chandigarh; Resident Doctors Association Lala Lajpat Rai Memorial Medical College, Meerut; Association of Resident Doctors, Union of Resident Doctors of Punjab; Telangana Junior Doctors Association, Hyderabad; and the Three Resident Doctors Association of All India Institute of Medical Sciences at Rishikesh, Patna and Bhubaneswar. .

The High Court Justice also passed an interim order restraining Ramdev and his aid Acharya Balkrishna and company Patanjali Ayurved from making allegations against modern medicine (Allopathy) and doctors. Earlier, Baba & Co alleged that allopathic doctors are profiteering off Covid patients. The 55 page judgment labeled the conduct of Baba Ramdev and his aide Balkrishna as ‘egregious’ in promoting Coronil as Covid-19’s cure. Justice Bhambhani remarked that if the aforementioned duo are permitted to promote and advertise the Patanjali product as cure for COVID, then the venerated practice of Ayurveda will be under disrepute. The court observed that anecdotal evidence of a handful of people cannot substitute statutory approval, certification and licensing of medicine.
