Qualcomm Launches Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 SoC For Budget Smartphones; Xiaomi To Debut It First

Qualcomm Technologies has just introduced its new Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 chipset, aiming to shake up the entry-level smartphone market. Announced on Tuesday, this latest chip is designed to bring 5G connectivity to more affordable devices, specifically those priced under Rs 10,000. Xiaomi will be the first to launch a phone featuring this new chipset, with a release expected in the coming months.

The Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 is a more accessible version of Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 4 Gen 2, which is already found in mid-range smartphones around Rs 15,000. Even though it's a simplified version, it still offers solid performance, especially when it comes to 5G. This chip supports 5G with speeds up to 1 Gbps and is compatible with Sub-6 GHz networks and standalone modes, which helps improve overall network performance.

Manufactured using a 4 nm process, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 includes an octa-core Kryo CPU. It combines two high-performance Cortex-A78 cores running at up to 2 GHz with six energy-efficient Cortex-A55 cores clocked at up to 1.8 GHz. This setup aims to balance power and efficiency, making it suitable for everyday tasks and multitasking. The Adreno GPU is also included, supporting modern graphics APIs like Vulkan 1.1 and OpenGL ES 3.2, which should enhance gaming and multimedia experiences.

On the imaging front, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 features the Qualcomm Spectra Image Signal Processor. It can handle a dual 16-megapixel camera setup or a single 32-megapixel sensor with 30 FPS Zero Shutter Lag, making it possible to take high-quality photos and videos.

The chipset supports Full HD+ displays with a 90Hz refresh rate, providing a smoother and more responsive visual experience. It also supports LPDDR4X RAM and UFS 3.1 storage, which means fast data access and efficient multitasking. For connectivity, it includes Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5.1, and support for multiple global navigation systems, including dual-band NavIC for better positioning accuracy. Additionally, the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2 supports Qualcomm’s Quick Charge 4+ technology for quicker battery charging.

With the Snapdragon 4s Gen 2, Qualcomm is setting a new standard for affordable smartphones, bringing premium 5G capabilities to a broader audience.
