Amazon just announced that “Metis,” their latest offering in AI chatbot technology, is in development, with a planned release for later this year.

Last year, Amazon officially entered the AI race against Google, Microsoft, and Apple with a formidable investment of $4 billion. Their focus is clear: become the leader in Chat AI.

Though they’ve tried, they’ve yet to produce a piece of AI technology that has taken the lead. Turns out, capturing the essence of human intelligence isn’t a straightforward exercise.

First, Amazon Q, designed for its corporate consumers, did not receive rave reviews. Then came “Rufus,” an AI shopping assistant. A new version of Alexa is also in the works: “Remarkable Alexa,” a voice assistant that includes a paid tier that they hope will generate an additional $60 million in revenue.

Now, they’re planning to release a new AI chatbot later this year with plans to overtake Open AI’s ChatGPT as the most powerful chatbox available.

Meet Metis, the latest in AI technology

Business Insider reported with sources and documents that “Metis” will reflect the best of their AI models, globally called Olympus. Metis is named after the mother of Athena, the Greek goddess of reason—positing the chatbot as the precursor to wisdom itself.

An internal document procured by Business Insider stated that it boasts all the features we’ve come to expect from a chatbot, including answering queries in text and images in a conversational tone. Metis will also share links to its sources, suggest follow-up questions, and even provide images. Metis implements “retrieval-augmented generation” technology as well that will enable it to deliver real-time responses such as stock prices, according to Silicon Angle.

Much more than an assistant, Metis is set to work like an “AI Agent,” the next frontier that will propel “the assistant” into the next generation.

According to Amazon, Metis will offer a more sophisticated suite of decision-making and task-performing capabilities, even autonomously, thanks to AI learning and algorithms.

Who will take the lead in AI?

Amazon hasn’t gotten ahead in the AI race as of yet, but it’s only been a year. Although, these days, a year feels like three. After all, the first AI assistant for the general consumer came out in 2011—Siri. Feels like a century ago.

Regardless, Amazon continues funneling funding, most notably $230 million, to support AI start-ups in advancing the field. Most consumers want to see a strong push forward for AI chat technology.

However, if these tech giants seek to get a major leg-up on the AI race, it’s time to call Flatiron Institute to get their new neuron model, which they created to support the creation of better AI models. Never before has human intelligence been penetrated this deeply. It is the future of AI.
