The Grand Stade Hassan II draws heavily from Moroccan culture, particularly the traditional social gatherings known as ‘moussem.’ These gatherings inspired the stadium’s grand tented rooftop, which dominates the forested landscape surrounding the stadium. This rooftop is more than a visual marvel—it's a powerful symbol of community and togetherness. Designed from a unique aluminum lattice, the rooftop is supported by a ring of thirty-two stairways, creating grand entrances framed by lush gardens elevated on 28-meter platforms.

The sculptural architectural feature of the rooftop is one of the stadium’s most striking elements. It's not just about aesthetics. This tented structure also serves a functional purpose by providing shelter for the 115,000-capacity crowd. The design aims to create an atmosphere of inclusivity, where the crowd is not just an audience but a part of a larger community experience. This sense of togetherness is a nod to Morocco’s cultural heritage, embodied in the traditional Moussem festivals.

One of the most unique aspects of the Grand Stade Hassan II is its extensive use of greenery. The stadium is surrounded by botanical gardens, creating a peaceful oasis within the bustling urban environment of Casablanca. The architects, Oualalou + Choi and Populous, have seamlessly integrated these gardens into the stadium’s design. From the stands and concourses, spectators can enjoy views of lush landscaping, adding to the overall experience of visiting the stadium.
