Congenital thrombotic thrombocytopenic purpura (#cTTP) is a rare #geneticdisorder causing significant health, economic, and social impacts. A study in Italy analyzed these effects on 15 patients through a questionnaire covering direct medical and indirect costs, including productivity loss. Findings showed that quality-of-life issues and productivity losses were the largest burdens. This emphasizes the need for a multidisciplinary approach to cTTP management, along with comprehensive support networks to address the broader impacts on patients and society. | https://ow.ly/3MpC50TUsYn

This study evaluated the #cytotoxicity, #selectivity, and #clonogenicity of fruits and resins from Saudi medicinal plants against liver #cancer cells (HepG2). Opuntia ficus-indica (BEP-10) showed the most potent effect, with an IC50 of 2.82, comparable to doxorubicin. It also demonstrated a selective impact on cancer cells over normal cells. GC-MS analysis revealed key phytoconstituents, including furan derivatives. The study concludes that Opuntia ficus-indica has potential as an #anticancer agent, particularly against liver cancer cells. | https://ow.ly/kY4o50TQK6s

This study evaluated the persistence, adherence, and outcomes of biologic and targeted synthetic disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (b/tsDMARDs) for #psoriaticarthritis (PsA) in Italy, focusing on biosimilars. Conducted in eight hospitals from 2017 to 2020, it compared adalimumab and etanercept originators with their biosimilars. Findings revealed that 48.6% of patients remained persistent for one year, with similar adherence for adalimumab treatments but better outcomes for the etanercept biosimilar. The results support the use of #biosimilars to improve efficiency and optimize #healthcare resources.| https://ow.ly/wl8r50TIzS3

This study assessed the intra- and inter-rater reliability of goniometric finger #rangeofmotion (ROM) in healthy adults using a written protocol. Twenty participants were evaluated by three experienced occupational therapists. Results showed moderate to good intra-rater reliability (88.7%) but lower inter-rater reliability (69.0%), with no significant differences based on hand dominance, movement type, or joint. The use of a standardized protocol improved consistency, but physical differences between raters and participants may have affected inter-rater reliability. | https://ow.ly/42na50TGMHk

This study examined the effects of #levofloxacin on #erythrocytes, finding that therapeutic doses (7, 14 μM) led to oxidative stress, reduced antioxidant enzyme activity, cell shrinkage, phosphatidylserine externalization, and hemolysis. #Calcium was found to trigger erythrocyte shrinkage. The research highlights levofloxacin’s potential to induce #eryptosis (erythrocyte death) and #hemolysis, suggesting the need for cautious use of this antibiotic and further studies to address these side effects. | https://ow.ly/v0wB50TFyY4

This study evaluated Epic Sciences' circulating tumor cell (CTC)-based ERBB2 (#HER2) assay, designed to detect HER2 amplification in metastatic #breastcancer (MBC) patients using single-cell genomics. The assay showed 85% sensitivity and 94% specificity in detecting 2-fold ERBB2 amplification. In a clinical concordance study comparing CTC results with tissue biopsy, the assay had 69% sensitivity and 78% specificity for chromosomally unstable CTCs. The test is valuable for patients where tissue biopsy is unavailable or impractical. | https://ow.ly/wLs350TE85v
