This study examined whether psychologically-informed physiotherapy (#PiP) is superior to usual physiotherapy (UP) in modulating pain sensitivity in #chroniclowbackpain (CLBP) patients. Forty participants underwent seven sessions over six weeks. Results showed no significant difference between PiP and UP in altering pain sensitivity, though both approaches led to widespread hypoalgesia. Changes in lumbar pain sensitivity were linked to physical functioning improvements. Future studies should explore pain sensitivity as a mediator of functional recovery. | https://lnkd.in/dH3B4HhF

This study explores #bioethical issues in #cancerrehabilitation as perceived by 31 Italian physiotherapists. Through six online focus groups, four key themes emerged: (1) ethical challenges in disclosing diagnoses and prognoses, (2) balancing hope and realistic expectations, (3) weighing efficacy and patient safety in treatment, and (4) ethical concerns in withdrawing treatment. These findings highlight common dilemmas in cancer rehabilitation and emphasize the need for a patient-centered approach to address these challenges effectively. | https://lnkd.in/d9WRXZ-P

This study assessed gait smoothness in People with #MultipleSclerosis (PwMS) using Inertial Measurement Units (#IMUs). #PwMS showed lower log dimensionless jerk (LDLJa) values than healthy participants, particularly in the anteroposterior (AP) and mediolateral (ML) directions. LDLJaML demonstrated good responsiveness to balance-focused rehabilitation, with improvements >4.02% linked to clinical gains. These findings highlight LDLJa’s potential as a valuable metric for tracking gait impairments and rehabilitation progress in PwMS. | https://lnkd.in/dKhzBh_q

This study assessed the impact of #respiratorysyncytialvirus (RSV) in Italy and the potential benefits of #nirsevimab prophylaxis for all infants. Using a decision-analytic model, researchers found that the current strategy protects only high-risk infants, leaving a significant number of infections and complications. Nirsevimab is expected to substantially reduce RSV cases, complications, and related mortality, highlighting its potential to alleviate both the clinical and economic burden of RSV in infants during their first season. | https://lnkd.in/dH4VaxJU

This study explored whether medicine prices influenced the duration of #pricing and #reimbursement (P&R) negotiations in Italy between 2021 and 2023. Data from 67 European Commission-approved medicines were analyzed, focusing on "gazette-to-gazette" time and #AIFA negotiation duration. The median procedure times were similar for both metrics. Results showed no correlation between medicine prices and the length of P&R procedures, suggesting that prices did not negatively impact negotiation timelines.| https://lnkd.in/dymRPgGW

#VirtualReality (VR) therapies are increasingly used in #stroke rehabilitation, prompting a rise in systematic reviews (SRs) on the topic. This study analyzed 58 SRs (2007–2022), including 345 primary studies and 45 ongoing SRs. Most reviews focused on upper extremity function (67.2%) but had "critically low" methodological quality (77.6%). The number of SRs and included studies has grown, with recent contributions primarily from Asia. Findings highlight the need for improved methodological rigor and global representation. | https://lnkd.in/eZMwdXzV

This study investigated the #antibiofilm activity of #Annonamuricata methanol leaf extract, alone and combined with fluconazole, against #Candidaalbicans. LC-MS identified 17 phytochemicals in the extract. Biofilm inhibition was dose-dependent, with up to 60% inhibition by the extract and enhanced inhibition (up to 78%) when combined with fluconazole. Scanning electron microscopy revealed altered biofilm morphology and cell damage. Molecular docking showed high binding affinity of phytochemicals to the Sap3 enzyme, suggesting potential for #antifungaltherapies targeting #fluconazole resistance. | https://lnkd.in/dRr9K9Mj

Physiotherapists’ adherence to clinical guidelines for #chroniclowbackpain (CLBP) is influenced by patient expectations. This study explored these perspectives through semi-structured interviews with 33 CLBP patients (mean age 53). Thematic analysis revealed six key themes, including physiotherapist- and patient-related factors, guideline adherence, and institutional challenges. Many patients were dissatisfied with consultation time, explanations, and exercise quality. Findings underscore the need for culturally adapted guidelines emphasizing patient education and active, socially integrated interventions. | https://lnkd.in/dH694Mtd

This study examined the #ceilingeffect of the modified shuttle test-15 (MST-15) in 286 healthy and 70 #cysticfibrosis (CF) children and adolescents. A ceiling effect occurred in 6.6% of healthy participants and 1.4% of CF patients, increasing with age, particularly in those aged 17–19. Age and sex significantly correlated with MST-15 distance in healthy participants, while age and FEV1 were key predictors in CF patients. Results highlight age-related limitations of the MST-15 | https://lnkd.in/dXnMT5Vc
