Reflecting on this year’s Black History Month theme—Reclaiming Narratives—Tim opened up about the challenges Black professionals face in navigating business environments, including the need to unlearn generational practices to succeed. Thank you to our people who made this possible, especially Trevor Goode as sponsor and Asha Owen-Adams as Chair of our Ashurst Black Network Committee. AI in Rail presents unique opportunities and risks. Ashurst hosted a stimulating Rail AI discussion in London this week with an outstanding group of 20 leading rail industry players, starting a conversation to address these key issues and concerns, against the backdrop of DfT's forthcoming AI strategy. Key themes and insights will be shared soon, but here are three key takeaways for now: ⚫ When targeted to solve specific identified challenges, the use of AI applications in rail is to be encouraged. ⚫ Rail AI applications in use and under development in this way now can serve as test cases for regulators to consider whether AI specific regulation in rail is needed, to supplement current ROGS and RIR processes. ⚫ There is a strong appeal for feedback and collaboration within the rail industry to share AI experiences for targeted optimisation of Rail AI to increase efficiencies and value for consumers and avoid over-regulation, without compromising on safety. Thank you to everyone who attended and shared their valuable insights on the future of AI in UK Rail and the importance of transparency in driving this forward. A particular thank you to our panellists and speakers Vaibhav Puri from RSSB, Alex Mindell from the Department for Transport (DfT), United Kingdom, Ryan Bown of IPEX Consulting, Stephen Mayoh of AtkinsRéalis, Neha Govila from Amey and Raj Akuthota from Hitachi Rail; and for joining Ashurst partners, Naomi Horton, Amanda Ludlow, Matt Worsfold and Rhiannon Webster to lead the discussion.
