The presence at last week's FoodSeed Demo Day sparked even more interest in #Asteasier and its goals. We are very proud that Corriere della Sera, the main Italian newspaper, dedicated an article to the seven winners of the FoodSeed Demo Day with a focus on Asteasier and its solution. The article can be read here: https://lnkd.in/dPqF9c8n Other Italian newspapers have also done the same in recent days: here is a small press review! ✅ Il Sole 24 ore: https://lnkd.in/dpzKFQtX ✅ La Repubblica: https://lnkd.in/dJpRffba ✅ La Stampa: https://lnkd.in/dcdD75By

The Asteasier project aims at introducing a more efficient and cost-effective method to produce natural astaxanthin.
Chi siamo
Astaxanthin is a carotenoid responsible for the pink/orange pigmentation of several fishes, like salmon, shrimps, and crustaceans. Astaxanthin is also one of the most powerful antioxidants found in nature, and provides an increased immune response against pathogens and viruses. Asteasier’s research team has identified and patented new strains of microalgae, which have shown exceptional results in the production of natural astaxanthin – a breakthrough that could have a huge impact in aquaculture, which is the most promising application, but at the same time also significantly affect other sectors, such as the cosmetics and nutraceutical markets.

We've been a little quiet recently but for good reason... The last few months have in fact marked an important milestone for our project: we are proud to announce that the #Asteasier start-up has been founded and has already started to be talked about! :) This was a fundamental step in the development of the Asteasier project, which in less than two years went from the research and trial phase to the market entry phase. And the first results were not long in coming: last October 22, in fact, Asteasier was presented in Verona as part of the Italian FoodSeed acceleration program which, with an endowment of 15 million euros, is part of the CDP Venture Capital SGR and is promoted by Fondazione Cariverona, UniCredit and Eatable Adventures. FoodSeed believed that Asteasier, and 6 other selected start-ups, are capable of bringing innovation to the agri-food sector, with the aim of strengthening the ecosystem and introducing a new way of thinking about food and technology. In addition to a financial boost, the partnership between FoodSeed and Asteasier will translate into the possibility of collaboration with companies in the agri-food sector and, therefore, into growth opportunities. Go Asteasier!

Thanks to our partner A4F-Algae for Future, #Asteasier will be presented, at the end of August during AQUA2024, in the scope of the World Aquaculture Society Meetings. Yet, another opportunity to showcase the Asteasier's promising results towards an expert audience. AQUA2024 will take place in Copenhagen, Denmark, from the 26th to 30th of August; AQUA events are held every six years: past events were held in Nice (2000), Florence (2006), Prague (2012) and Montpellier (2018).

Thanks to Verona Agrifood Innovation Hub for the opportunity! Having presented the #Asteasier project as part of "Innovazione FoodTech", a free training course on the trending innovations in the #agrifood sector, has been a pleasure and an educational experience too. The training course will continue next week, with the last two lessons dedicated to blockchain and the supply chain traceability, and a final workshop!

Tomorrow, June 19th, Nico Betterle from Università degli Studi di Verona will be introducing the #Asteasier project in the scope of "Innovazione Foodtech", a free training course on the trending innovations in the #agrifood sector. The course is divided into 4 sessions, each focused on specific topics such as new ingredients, agriculture 4.0, IoT, Artificial Intelligence, new alternative materials to plastic and food service. SYNBEE published a nice article that summarizes what went on last 9th of April during the #EIC x SYNBEE day that witnessed also the participation of the #Asteasier project. The article can be found here: https://lnkd.in/dA5ipWHi Asteasier participated in the pitch competition with other 8 start-ups: although this time we are not coming home with a success, the event was nevertheless a great opportunity to highlight the Asteasier solution in the scope of the synthetic biology field and the role that it has in addressing climate change and fostering sustainability.

Thanks to our partner A4F-Algae for Future, we can announce another important achievement for the #Asteasier project. The demo unit was successfully installed at the Università degli Studi di Verona, which is the project and scientific coordinator of the project. The demo unit will provide the consortium with fundamental data in terms of natural astaxanthin productivity and cost-effectiveness of the process that was developed during the Asteasier project. Good job, A4F!
A4F Launches Asteasier Project DEMO Unit at the University of Verona 🎉 Exciting News from A4F! 🎉 We're thrilled to share that we've successfully launched the demonstration unit for the Asteasier project at the University of Verona, Italy. This marks a step forward in producing natural astaxanthin, the most powerful antioxidant in nature. Our demo unit showcases a custom MHT-PBR with artificial lighting (MHT-PBR LumiLayer) equipped with process units and ancillary systems ensuring top efficiency in operation. This demo unit (capacity of one cubic meter) is just one more step towards the Asteasier’s ultimate goal of providing a more efficient and cost-effective method to produce natural astaxanthin, paving the way for a sustainable future in aquaculture and beyond. We are happy to announce that the #Asteasier project has reached an important step of its development. In fact, just over a month ago, the fish trial phase began at BioMar's technology centers, through which #BioMar also supports test feed production for R&D projects, producing a large number of trial diets and biological trials every year. BioMar formulated the right nutritional composition and produced the required feed codes for testing the relevant pigment sources. In the last few weeks salmon maintained in BioMar's technology center have been therefore fed with feed enriched with the astaxanthin produced from algae grown by the Università degli Studi di Verona and A4F-Algae for Future, partners of the Asteasier project. The production process followed commercial standards and the next few months will be important to confirm the positive effects of natural astaxanthin and validate Asteasier's innovative approach.
