Enlightening Uniqueness

Chi siamo

Barovier&Toso is the most ancient glass company in the world, established in 1295 and still based in Venice Murano, devoted to maintain and innovate the glass tradition with timeless masterpieces, unique for design, exquisite manufacture, technology fused with creativity, to inspire true emotions, positive feelings and special atmosphere. MANIFESTO In seven centuries of history, we have seen fashions come and go. Some were minimal, others more baroque, but every one of them chased time in a desperate search for the “new.” Time in Venice, instead, goes by slowly. There is no rush, no craze, just a great deal of space and time to develop your craft. So we took our time and in that time we have learned that we would rather do something unique and enlightening that lasts forever instead of something new that only fascinates you for one season. It takes strength to bring glass out from the fire and heat. It takes patience to strive for nothing less than the perfect shape. And it takes heart, a lot of it, to grow a legendary luxury lighting tradition into the new world, working with innovators and traditionalists alike. But again, we can afford the luxury of time. And perhaps, so can you.

Barovier&Toso | Breath of Gold Barovier&Toso presents Breath of Gold, the display designed by Nichetto Studio for the window of the monobrand boutique in Venice. The journey into the world of glassmaking continues this time, focusing particularly on the essential role of air in the reworking of this precious material. The theme of Breath of Gold preserves the tradition of past displays by utilizing a specific color palette to represent essential elements in the glassmaking process. Previously, Nichetto Studio paid homage to earth, fire, and water with the colors green, red, and blue, respectively. However, in the latest installation, the color gold now symbolizes air. Breath of Gold aims to recreate the ancient practice of glassblowing, offering a window into the production process in Murano. Papier-mâché faces, representing skilled glassblowers, come together in a dynamic crowd evoking the vibrant energy of a bustling workshop. The characters blow glass in various sizes, elegantly showcasing the glassmaking process and inviting observers to witness the artistry and precision of this timeless craft. In the foreground, among elements shaped by master glassmakers, the new collections of Venetian Crystal vases Yoroi, Dune, Palatino, and Posidonia can be recognized. Meanwhile, the golden grid surrounding the characters pays homage to the traditional screens used by glassmakers to shield themselves from the intense heat of the kiln, underscoring the display’s authenticity. Simultaneously, the blowpipes, faithfully sized to their real-life counterparts, mimic the batons of carnival masks, adding a touch of whimsy and elegantly weaving both Nichetto Studio and Barovier&Toso’s Venetian roots. The rich glass hues from Barovier&Toso’s new collection harmoniously blend with the opulent gold tones present in Breath of Gold, creating a visual symphony of color and texture. Barovier&Toso | Posidonia - Vases Collections 2024 Barovier&Toso rekindles its love for decorative objects and presents four new collections of Venetian Crystal vases, a unique material capable of giving shape to works of great artistic value. The Posidonia vase embodies the sinuous movement of seaweed, capturing the fluid beauty of the underwater world. Its creation is an art that begins with the “pulling of the canes,” elongated and arranged on a grooved support. The first gathering of glass, shaped into a cylinder, is rolled over the bronze tool, collecting the canes. Layer by layer, the vase takes shape, evoking the depth of a dive into water. The colors and variable lengths of the canes reproduce the natural harmony of swaying seaweed, giving the piece a touch of elegance and uniqueness. The Posidonia vase is not just an object but a fragment of the ocean, bringing with it the magic and serenity of the underwater world. To celebrate the launch of the new Venetian Crystal vase collections, Barovier&Toso has formed a partnership with Dylan Tripp a renowned floral designer known for his ability to transform flowers and plants into true works of art. His unique style, which combines historical elements and contemporary design, creates a perfect dialogue with the timeless elegance of Barovier&Toso vases. For this collaboration, Dylan has created four exclusive videos, one for each vase collection, following his distinctive, fresh, and light style. Each video captures the essence of each vase, enhancing the beauty of Venetian Crystal with floral compositions that are sophisticated yet always with a touch of lightness and fun, transforming each piece into a unique sensory experience. The vibrant and pleasant tone of this partnership perfectly reflects the freshness and joy that characterize Dylan Tripp’s style, making each creation an invitation to discover beauty in a new and engaging way. Barovier&Toso | Bollibolle and Diamante - Limited Edition The “Water’s Edge” installation celebrates the heritage and exceptional craftsmanship of Barovier&Toso by presenting two iconic vases in an enchanting shade of blue: Diamante and Bollibolle. This limited, numbered series features only 40 exclusive pieces (20 Bollibolle and 20 Diamante). The Diamante vase, a scintillating gem presented at the XXXIV Venice Art Biennale in 1968, embodies the quintessence of Murano glass art. Characterized by square-sectioned reliefs, available in a palette of various colors and embellished with gold leaf, this vase represents a sublime blend of tradition and innovation. Meticulously crafted, every detail of the Diamante Vase is hand-chiseled, and its surface dances with light thanks to a veil of gold leaf that captures and refracts the rays, enhancing the vibrant hues of the glass. The Bollibolle vase, designed by Franco Raggi in 1994 and launched in 1995, is a perfect alchemy of tradition and innovation. Its oval section stands out for its elegant ribs and a unique texture of transparent bubbles and lattimo white glass spots that dance together, generating a play of light and shadow, thus giving the vase depth and dynamism. The transparency of the glass adds a touch of pure elegance, while the evenly distributed white spots impart movement and vitality. A work of art that enriches any environment with a touch of originality, embodying the Venetian glassmaking tradition in a modern and refined form. Luca Nichetto Nichetto Studio Franco Raggi

Barovier&Toso | Water’s Edge The showcase of Barovier&Toso’s new Venice boutique undergoes a transformation with a new arrangement designed by Nichetto Studio. Following “Flora & Flutter”, a garden of leafy plants in intense liquid cedar-colored Venetian crystal, and “Burning Light” with the iconic chandelier 4607 deconstructed within a vibrant orange setting, the third chapter “Water’s Edge” explores the element of water in the glassmaking process by proposing a series of objects in bright blue tones. “Water’s Edge” offers a fascinating exploration of the rich tradition of Venetian glassmaking, showcasing the mastery and timeless beauty that define this art form. The installation celebrates the rich heritage and supreme artistic craftsmanship of Barovier&Toso, presenting a series of vases including the iconic Diamante and Bollibolle collections. The latter was designed by Franco Raggi in 1994 and presented in 1995 in a diverse color range that also included a special shade of blue. This color has been exclusively chosen to create a limited and numbered series of glass works consisting of 40 pieces (20 Bollibolle and 20 Diamante). Water is an indispensable factor in the production of glass works as it plays a dual role of cooling and refining the raw material. In the traditional manufacturing process, artisans gather the molten glass at the end of a blowing tube and then shape it using various tools. Water is crucial at this stage, as it is used to quickly cool the raw material, allowing it to solidify and maintain its shape. “Water’s Edge” marks a new chapter for the Venetian boutique which, thanks also to its strategic location, becomes increasingly a point of attraction for tourists and passersby captivated by the scenic installative windows that play with the theme of a different color each time. A journey in stages to discover the potential and centuriesold artisanal mastery of Barovier&Toso. Luca Nichetto Nichetto Studio Franco Raggi

Barovier&Toso | From the Heart to the Hands: Dolce&Gabbana Barovier&Toso lights up the halls of Palazzo Reale in Milan for the Dolce&Gabbana Exhibition “From the Heart to the Hands: Dolce&Gabbana”. Until July 31 at Palazzo Reale in Milan, visitors can explore the exhibition “From the Heart to the Hands: Dolce&Gabbana,” a journey that illustrates the creative process behind the works and ideas of Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana. The exhibition, curated by Florence Müller, promoted by the Municipality of Milan’s Culture Department, and produced by Palazzo Reale and IMG, hosts the unique creations from the Dolce&Gabbana Alta Moda, Alta Sartoria and Alta Gioielleria Collections. Barovier&Toso has been chosen by Dolce&Gabbana as the partner for lighting the halls of Palazzo Reale, an invitation that seals a long and fruitful collaboration between the two brands, both masters of excellence in Made in Italy craftsmanship. Among their most recent significant collaborations was the presentation of the Dolce&Gabbana Casa collection in Venice in 2021, for which Barovier&Toso created a series of special installations. For “From the Heart to the Hands: Dolce&Gabbana”, Barovier&Toso has lent 17 pieces, including chandeliers and suspensions, installed inside the halls of Palazzo Reale. The selection primarily features the company’s iconic products from Murano, known for their strong decorative character and distinguished by exquisite gold details that echo the selection of dresses on display. Thanks to a centuries-old tradition in the art of hand-blown glass, Barovier&Toso thus participates in the celebration of craftsmanship and the handmade that distinguishes the work of Dolce&Gabbana. A perfect meeting of different forms of creativity and artisanal savoir-faire where fashion objects and creations are elevated to works of art.

Barovier&Toso | Fuorisalone 2024 Barovier&Toso at Fuorisalone 2024 presents Endless | Light Reflections by vandersandestudio On the occasion of Fuorisalone 2024 in Milan, Barovier&Toso presents Endless, a special installation realized by @vandersandestudio at the showroom in Via Durini. For the first time, the Milanese monobrand space, located in the heart of the Design District, hosts a site-specific project that enhances the environments and their potential. The project involves the complete transformation of the ground floor of the showroom with the creation of an immersive luminous installation at its center. This installation is composed of slender blown glass columns with light effects that turn on and off alternately, resting on some mirrored walls installed on the floor and ceiling. The play of lights and reflections of the different elements creates a unique and dreamlike atmosphere, giving life to light architectures that repeat into infinity. The glasswork of the parts reflects that of one of the most iconic chandeliers by Barovier&Toso, Metropolis, characterized by rods with a thin diameter and external longitudinal ribs. The arrangement of these tubular-shaped elements, equipped with LED lighting, is varied throughout the showroom setup, creating always new luminous scenarios. In the display window, a large wall of bright glass rods with some colored inserts hints at and invites to discover the installation inside without fully revealing it, thus enticing the visitor to enter. At the entrance, there is a small relaxation area with a large seat along the wall, while around the central immersive installation, a visual path marked by a sand-colored carpet invites exploring the surrounding environment and the different uses of the tubes: as screens, columns, and suspensions. Furthermore, a series of undulating luminous glass partitions, along with lacquered panels and draperies, helps to define the visiting path, making it dynamic and engaging. Inside the installation, some products from the Barovier&Toso catalog are also on display, including the Campanula suspension designed by García Cumini.
