The Biondi-Santi new vintages presentation tour stops in Italy. Last week, during an intimate event in Milano, we presented the new Brunello di Montalcino 2019, Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2018, and the second release of the Riserva 1997.    In the words of Giampiero Bertolini, CEO, who presented the wines alongside Federico Radi, Viticulture and Winemaking Director:   "The 2019 Brunello di Montalcino is from a complex, fragrant, balanced vintage with a great ageing potential – which we are very excited about because it is another harvest in our element.   Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2018 shows how beautiful that vintage can be. If the 2018 Brunello had already proven its energy, elegance, and tension last year, the Riserva goes further, thanks to greater intensity and a longer finish on the palate. The management of every plot of vineyards at Biondi-Santi is “a puzzle every year”, according to Federico Radi, Viticulture and Winemaking Director at Biondi-Santi: “We have 32 hectares of Sangiovese, divided on different large vineyard sites at various altitudes and expositions. Since its very first vintage, Biondi-Santi Riserva bottles have always been sealed with wax, protecting the cork during the wine’s journey through time. More precisely, we’re talking about beeswax, made locally from local apiculture in Montalcino. This ‘ritual’ happens just a few miles away from Tenuta Greppo. The birth of a new vineyard: planting out grafted vine plants. A labor of passion that nurtures new life and inspires bright futures. Supervised by Biondi-Santi Vineyard Manager Antonio Francesco Piccinno, our team and collaborators have recently laid the basis for a new vineyard near Tenuta Greppo. After deciding the rows' orientation according to the best exposition, stakes were used to define the position of each row. The grafted vine plants of Sangiovese are carefully established one by one by hand, making sure the roots can spring freely and correctly.
