    Bias is not something we are born with. For example, no one is born thinking that one group of people is better at certain tasks than another group. These ideas are learned over time, shaped by society, media, and past experiences. Biases can be conscious, where people are aware of their beliefs, or unconscious, where biases operate automatically, influencing our thoughts and actions without us even realizing it. These unconscious biases are particularly challenging because they shape how we see and treat others, affecting everything from hiring and promotions to team dynamics and decision-making. Bias is formed in the brain through a process called “neurons that fire together, wire together,” which means that repeated thoughts and experiences create mental shortcuts or habits in our minds.
