Nothing is created, nothing is destroyed… everything is recovered. Chimet’s mission is clear and precise: to recover and refine precious metals from industrial processing waste, making it easier to recycle them in the production of catalysts, thick films and chemicals. Chimet sees sustainability as the key to maintaining its position as a leading company providing an industrial service based on a closed cycle of the recovery, refining and production of precious metals and precious metal-based chemicals. Chi siamo

"Waste is a valuable resource: it’s where you start to create and transform. To do this, knowledge is essential; you need to know how to make use of each type of waste to extract and finally create." Vincenzo Schettini captivated the audience at the Petrarca Theatre, guiding them through a thought-provoking exploration of how waste recovery and circular economy principles can shape a sustainable future. His insights highlighted the crucial role that knowledge and education play in fostering a deeper understanding of our impact on the planet, with physics serving as the lens through which these concepts were illuminated. Schettini's engaging approach underscored the importance of rethinking our relationship with resources to ensure a healthier planet. #VincenzoSchettini #LaFisicaCheCiPiace #Chimet #50years #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Education #Future

What a memorable day! On October 9th, we had the pleasure of hosting Vincenzo Schettini at the Petrarca Theatre in Arezzo for "La fisica che ci piace". Maria Cristina Squarcialupi and Luca Benvenuti took the stage to introduce the celebrated “professor of the web”, who captivated students and our collaborators with an engaging show that explored the wonders of physics and the importance of instruction in shaping a better tomorrow. His enthusiasm made our 50th-anniversary celebrations even more special, highlighting our commitment to education, sustainability, and circular economy. A big thank you to Vincenzo Schettini and to everyone who joined us, making this event a fantastic success. We appreciate your support and dedication to fostering knowledge and progress. Here’s to many more initiatives that bring us together and help us build a brighter future! #VincenzoSchettini #LaFisicaCheCiPiace #Chimet #50years #CircularEconomy #Sustainability #Education #Future

An ethical question: why recycled metals? Perhaps not everyone knows that beyond generating huge amounts of waste, extracting metals from mines involves the use of highly polluting and toxic substances, for example cyanide and mercury in the case of gold. The pollution generated is often a danger for decades, even centuries to come. Social, economic, political, or even cultural or psychological impacts are a measure of this model of exploitation. In the US, the metal mining business creates approximately 30% of the total toxic discharges measured by the EPA each year. The situation is far worse in poor countries with more permissive rules: gold mines and their waste have poisoned rivers in Guyana, significantly destroyed the rainforest in Papua New Guinea, and forced the evacuation of entire villages in the Philippines. In West Africa, thousands of children dig for gold in extreme conditions. According to the United Nations, one fifth of the world’s gold reserves are mined by miners who work for wages below the subsistence level. It has been estimated that over a third of global mercury pollution is caused by small-scale mining. Mercury is a neurotoxin that causes damage to the brain, nervous system, lungs and kidneys. It is especially harmful to pregnant women and children, even in small quantities. Precious metals are not an infinite resource, sooner or later they will run out. If we still need them, we will have to learn to find them in different “mines” than the current ones: waste. Our mission is to recover and refine precious metals from industrial processing waste. By embracing the Circular Economy, we offer a responsible alternative to harmful mining practices, reducing environmental impact.
