COSMED K5 and Aquatrainer helped collecting data for the recent publication “Determining VO2max in competitive swimmers: Comparing the validity and reliability of cycling, arm cranking, ergometer swimming, and tethered swimming” by Michel de Haan and his colleagues, investigating the most effective method for determining VO2max in competitive swimmers. ⠀⠀⠀ Aquatrainer is an easy-to-mount swimming snorkel connected to COSMED K5 wearable metabolic systems that allows to perform gas exchange analysis during swimming.  ⠀⠀⠀ Maximal oxygen consumption (VO2max) is a critical success factor in most endurance sports, including competitive swimming. VO2max reflects how well the cardiovascular and respiratory systems deliver oxygen to the muscles involved, as well as their ability to utilize this oxygen in producing the energy required for competitive performance. Measuring VO2max is therefore an indispensable tool for researchers, coaches and athletes striving toward excellence in training and performance. ⠀⠀⠀ This study is part of the physiology PhD project of Michel de Haan. Mark Buley, senior health educator at the Fort Cavazos Armed Forces Wellness Center (Texas), highlighted the importance of the BOD POD to help military members achieve and maintain fitness goals with accurate measurements of body composition. ⠀⠀⠀ “If you’re making health behavior changes, if you’re making dietary changes, you want to make sure that those are impacting you positively and that you’re moving in the right direction.
