🔆 Exciting Developments in Research and Sustainable Energy at Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste! Yesterday, we had the pleasure of welcoming MICHELE BABUDER from the Comune di Trieste/Municipality of Trieste to the Elettra Synchrotron. The visit was a fantastic opportunity to explore new ways to strengthen ties between our research infrastructure and the local community. Key Highlights from the Visit: 🧑🔬 Cutting-edge technologies: A detailed presentation showcased the center’s innovative scientific work, highlighting groundbreaking research. 🔬 Advanced X-ray Microscopy: A special focus on our advanced TwinMic beamline, an impressive instrument pushing the boundaries of X-ray imaging. 💡 FERMI free-electron laser: A tour of FERMI, where advanced research in physics, chemistry, and molecular biology is taking place. 🌱 Sustainable energy: Discussions on a potential photovoltaic park near the site, which would directly supply clean energy to support the operations of Elettra and FERMI. It was a productive meeting that promises even closer collaboration between Elettra and the local community as we push forward in both scientific discovery and sustainability.

✨We bid farewell to #BSBF24 from last week, by highlighting the final two branded #Elettra talks. Our topics covered were: ✴️ Science Organizations: Future Investments and Business Opportunities, with our Scientific Director, Giorgio Paolucci. ✳️ Exploring Tools for Enabling Green Solutions through Procurement, with our Head of Industrial Liaison Office, Marco Peloi. #Some #highlights: ✴️✨ During the session, international research organizations, selected through the Call for Affiliated Big Science Organizations, presented their investment plans 📈 and business opportunities for the coming years. Several organizations participated, providing a comprehensive view of future collaborations 🌐. 🔬💡 Giorgio Paolucci presented the funded upgrade project for the development of Elettra 2.0 🚀. 🟠This new low-emittance storage ring is set to revolutionize scientific research, offering a more coherent, collimated, and intense radiation beam. These innovations will enable groundbreaking advancements in high-impact scientific and technological fields. ✳️Procurement as a Key Driver for Innovation! 🚀 During the session, Marco Peloi explained how procurement can accelerate the adoption of innovative technologies within Research Infrastructures (RI) and create new opportunities for collaboration 🌱. 🟠 Using the Beam Position Monitor (BPM) for Elettra 2.0 as a case study, he discussed the tools, tendering options, and benefits of innovation partnerships. 🟠This model, demonstrated through the BPM tender, enables seamless collaboration between industry and research infrastructures, overcoming traditional procurement barriers and fostering the co-creation of cutting-edge technologies that benefit both companies and RIs, driving progress.

🇬🇧The opening of BSBF2024 in Trieste brought the Bigs of Italian science and research on the stage, together with the President of the Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia @Massimiliano Fedriga, Deputy Mayor Serena Tonel and Councillor Alessia Rosolen for the institutional greetings. Caterina Petrillo, President of Area Science Park AREA, highlighted Elettra Sincrotrone Trieste as a large-scale facility in the area and part of the park, emphasising Area Science Park's vocation as a focal point for collaboration between research and industry. 🇮🇹L'inaugurazione del BSBF2024 a Trieste ha portato sul palco i Big della scienza e della ricerca italiana, insieme al Presidente della Regione Friuli Venezia Giulia Massimiliano Fedriga, la Vicesindaco Serena Tonel e l'Assessore Alessia Rosolen per i saluti istituzionali. 🇬🇧 The first day of BSBF2024 in Trieste opened with several satellite events, including one organised by International Union of Pure and Applied Physics (IUPAP) , which explored the relationship between academia, industry and #STEM professions. Among the keynote speakers was Marco Peloi , Head of Industrial Liaison at Elettra-Sincrotrone Trieste(Elettra for Industry), who shared his experience and emphasised the importance of collaboration between research and industry. He highlighted how these synergies increase the opportunities to work on innovative projects and bring new energy to the sector.🚀 🏆Two groups of students from Slovenian high schools also received awards for their research work on science communication.🔬 A thought-provoking start to building a more innovative and collaborative future, while encouraging greater youth engagement in #STEMcareers! 🇮🇹La prima giornata del BSBF24 a Trieste si è aperta con alcuni eventi satellite tra cui quello organizzato da IUPAP, che ha esplorato il rapporto tra accademia, industria e le professioni STEM. #TriesteNEXT2024ScienceFestival happened in the week end! 🔸 Elettra took part in the 13th edition of Trieste Next, with the #theme "The #Horizons of Intelligence: Knowledge and Human-Technology Frontiers." 💫 The event attracted thousands of visitors, both Italian and international, offering a platform for scientific discourse! We organized four well-attended conferences! 🔵 When Physics Goes into the Ward: Application of advanced microtomography using synchrotron light for noninvasive 3D imaging. This technology aids in faster, more accurate diagnostics for diseases like melanoma and osteoporosis, with potential for personalized clinical solutions. In collaboration with CERIC-ERIC Speakers: Lorenzo D’Amico (Monash University), Giulia Saccomano (Università degli Studi di Trieste, #Elettra) 🟡 The Impact of Volcanic Eruptions: 3D X-ray tomography at Elettra helps study volcanic rock samples, enhancing prediction models for explosive eruptions and their environmental impacts. 📣Speakers: Fabio Arzilli (University of Camerino), Emily Bamber (Università degli Studi di Torino ) 🟠 New Smart Materials for CO2 Storage: Exploration of Metal Organic Frameworks (MOFs) for CO2 storage, studied at Elettra's beamlines. These materials also show promise for other applications like drug delivery. Stimulating curiosity and critical thinking in the new generations means opening the door to new discoveries and innovations. 🚀 We talked about how to investigate the infinitely small and the incredibly fast, two frontiers that push human knowledge beyond its current limits. ❓ The students' questions are the true driving force behind these meetings. News da #SHARPER-night ✨Ieri pomeriggio, all'#UrbanCenter di #Trieste, si è tenuta la presentazione di "Dinosauri e molto altro: le nuove scoperte del Villaggio del Pescatore". Iniziativa organizzata in occasione della #SharperNight (IG @sharper_night) dove i ricercatori di Alma Mater Studiorum – Università di Bologna ed Elettra, assieme a #zoictrieste hanno presentato una nuova scoperta del Villaggio del Pescatore: il fossile del coccodrillo #Acynodon di 80milioni di anni. 💡 Grazie ad Elettra, sono stati rivelati dettagli inediti del cranio di Acynodon, con denti specializzati per catturare prede e triturare gusci. Inoltre, è stato possibile osservare passaggi dei vasi sanguigni e informazioni sulla temperatura corporea, permettendo di comprendere meglio la vita di questi coccodrilli nel Cretaceo e l'ambiente in cui vivevano! 📢 https://lnkd.in/dZW8wJHa
