What powers a five-star safari lodge in South Africa’s wilderness? Hint: It’s not dirty diesel. 👇 South Africa’s ongoing energy shortages have forced many businesses to rely on diesel generators for backup power, especially in remote locations. However, Jaci's Lodges, a 5-star ecotourism operation in the Madikwe Game Reserve, has chosen a more sustainable path. Commissioned in August 2023, an H2 microgrid system from our partner, Elemental Energy, removed the need for backup diesel generation. In a nutshell, it’s a stationary 24/7 power solution that combines solar power, short-term battery energy storage, and long-duration hydrogen energy storage. Here’s how their 100kW H₂IPO works: • Powered by a combination of grid & 200 kWp solar energy input • A battery system ensures short-term energy storage • 40 #AEM Electrolysers produce on-site green hydrogen • Hydrogen is stored in Hexagon Purus’s Type-4 cylinders • Toyota’s Hydrogen Fuel Cells then provide backup power A bonus? The fuel cells also generate hot water, heating the lodge’s rooms and pools. This hybrid system maximises solar PV usage and minimises grid dependence, providing clean, reliable, and quiet power. The lodge and Elemental Energy are working on upscaling the installation to cater for a larger power requirement from the combined group of lodges. All this ensures that guests at Jaci's Lodges will enjoy the big-5 game viewing experience in the Madikwe Game Reserve, undisturbed. How we connect #AEM hardware with smart software ⬇️ Today, energy system managers face a major challenge: Energy systems are usually complex and heterogenous, featuring devices from different suppliers and thus data sources in varied formats and structures. Our customisable and intelligent Energy Management System (EMS) Toolkit offers the hardware and software tools needed to integrate any energy device into a unified energy network of any size and complexity – from dryers, fuel cells and sensors to storage tanks, solar modules, wind turbines and more. Our integration partners and customers value these 3 EMS features: ✅ Quick & easy integration ✅ Intuitive monitoring ✅ Remote control The Enapter App makes commissioning an AEM EL 4 electrolyser much easier – and faster. Our 8 steps to green hydrogen production: 1. Secure the EL 4 in place to ensure it won’t shake or move 2. Install all pipes [must be cut, deburred, cleaned and assembled] 3. Switch on the AEM Electrolyser 4. Use the Enapter App to scan the QR code on the front panel 5. Add device to the Enapter Cloud 6. App guides you through the electrolyte filling process 7. AEM Electrolyser automatically switches to IDLE mode after filling 8. Push start to produce green hydrogen Integrators like H2 Core Systems GmbH usually run several performance tests before the customer gets the system collecting data like H2 production rate, output pressure and power consumption. The Enapter App conveniently enables remote performance tests with customers worldwide. It’s also possible to offer remote support in case it’s needed. This is indispensable when green hydrogen production takes place in distant locations, such as off-grid solutions, in the mountains, on islands, etc. At Enapter, we believe in the need to act with urgency. Connecting AEM hardware with smart software accelerates the deployment of clean tech to drive the energy transition. Start small now, scale up quickly: Here’s why Roto-Art and Adsensys are role models for industrial usage of green hydrogen👇 At Roto-Art BV, all signals are green. The Dutch company manufactures customer-specific plastic products using rotational casting. Their creations range from designer lamps to basketball hoops and feeders. Together with our Certified Partner Adsensys, they implemented a role model project for industrial usage of green hydrogen: Roto-Art has 11 ovens. And 1,600 PV panels on the roof of their new factory. On a sunny day, they generate 4 MWh of solar power. 𝗧𝗵𝗲𝗶𝗿 𝗽𝗹𝗮𝗻: Replace as much natural gas as possible using excess solar energy to produce onsite green hydrogen. • 7 of Enapter’s #AEM EL 4 electrolysers • already blend >30% of H2 into the natural gas network • to supply one oven The cooperation is a pilot project. Step by step, more green H2 is being added to replace natural gas. With each increase, the furnaces and the end product are monitored to establish the maximum amount of injected H2 – without decreasing the product quality and without damaging the furnace. The goal is to reach 100% H2. Roto-Art's rooftop PV even has enough capacity to supply all the ovens with green hydrogen. The turnkey hydrogen system was commissioned in less than half a year after Adsensys’s Arthur Scheffer and Cas Oerlemans from Roto-Art met. “We both like to tackle things,” says Arthur. At Enapter, we admire this mentality of acting with urgency. This #AEMpowered multi-picea system can store up to 15,000 kWh of solar power to supply medium-sized companies with green H2-based energy all year round 👇 Our Berlin-based partner HPS Home Power Solutions AG is the provider of the first all-in-one solar-hydrogen system for buildings. Their “picea” system combines components including our #AEM Electrolyser technology and green hydrogen storage to create a fully self-sufficient and CO₂-free energy system. For even higher energy storage capacities in bigger properties, a large number of picea systems can be connected together in a cascaded ‘multi-picea’. In 2021 and on a building area of 1200m², Josef Küpper Söhne GmbH realised the first commercial building in Germany that supplies itself with heat, cooling and electricity with the help of self-generated green hydrogen and is thus energy self-sufficient. With 98 kWp of photovoltaics on the roof and also on the façade, every ray of sunlight is captured. The solar power supplies the lighting, the IT infrastructure and all other electrical devices. Küpper’s electric vehicles refuel their required energy at a total of five e-charging stations. 🌞In summer, there is a solar surplus. At this time, green hydrogen is produced and stored in pressurised cylinders for seasonal energy storage. Their storage solution can store 440kg of green hydrogen, which provides the equivalent of 7,500 kWh of electricity and 7,500 kWh of heat, whenever needed. ❄️In winter, electricity and heat are generated from the green hydrogen via fuel cells. The waste heat from the fuel cells is used to heat the company’s storage areas. The geothermal heat pump also receives electricity either directly from the PV system or from the multi-picea energy centre. Peter Küpper, founder and owner of Küpper Söhne states: “With our new location, we have built a beacon that radiates far beyond the region. We show that ecology and economy can be in harmony. The energy transition is possible. Let's get started on this path together.” Do you also want to supply your own residential or commercial property with self-generated solar power all year round – and be more independent of electricity price fluctuations?
